I recently got my 2011 Tacoma TRD off road lifted (6inch rough country with 35s). I got it re geared as well with 4:56. I can't go above 80 on the highway and it revs high RPMs. I notice the power loss when accelerating as well. Is this from the lift or something else?

It's the tires. 35 inch tires are gonna slow you down even with the regear.

The re-gear will get you back closer to factory ratios, but not factory weight.

Thanks Harry, what size tire will get me back to normal stock speed and performance with that regear?

Is it an auto? I would have recommended 4.88 gears instead. Besides, these trucks have the aerodynamics of a UPS truck. Lifting it up ~8" (lift and tires) is not going to help either.

Theoretically a tire that weighs the same as the stock one's but is tall enough to match up with the re-gear, don't know if that exists though.

33's w/ with 4.56 then? It would probably help.

Yeah, and something skinnier will help too since there's less rolling resistance. I'd recommend some 34x10.5r17 KO2's as they only weigh 56lbs. Or possibly a 255/85r17 tire. They're also 33" tall, but 10" wide aka pizza cutters. That'll help too.

Or - there's always the supercharger option :burnrubber:

I don't think he can get 255/85/16 or 255/80/17s.. Pretty sure you have to run at least 18in wheels on 6in lifts b/c you have to flip the tie rod ends to keeping steering angles decent and 18's are the smallest wheels that will clear.

Hmm, never heard of that before.

OP, what size wheels are you running?

I had heard that, but I just looked under my truck, looks like plenty of clearance to flip the tie rod ends w/ my 16s... maybe there is another reason.

I remember reading that 18s were the smallest due to some clearance issue, but I have apparently forgotten why.:anonymous:

Skimming through this thread real quick, I found a few members running 17" wheels.

    Yes it is.

The lesson to be learned here is to research before spending your money.

Wait till you see what's happened to your MPGs. And many will come along and say it's a truck, it doesn't matter, but they are only the 5% er's

Hopefully you'll be able to resolve it to perform as you wish w/o having to double your spending...........
