Yeah, just around town driving really. We do great with Lizzy's 2wd nissan xterra here so makes me wonder if a 4wd is really needed for her. The situations she has gotten stuck was due to having an open diff, not 2wd necessarily (though, 4wd wouldn't have been in that situation). I would guess a locker and some maxtrax would probably work for her almost all the time.

maxxtracs are pretty worthless without a locker IMO. So they would help for sure with that.

So you are think a 2wd taco for her to drive around? Should be fine. Id still do a 4wd one though really. You'll be in some snowy country now.

Sweet. Yeah, she wouldn't use it driving. Just those sad moments you have one tire in the curb on ice and the other on pavement.

Yeah, she wants 4wd for the obvious reasons but I don't really think its necessary since BabyT is the go to for any camping/fishing/backroad activity. The truck would rarely leave payment and only be used for dry service road type driving. Just keeping an eye out for things though. If we could eventually convert it to 4wd with a bit of $ and some effort then I would be more for it. If its a damn nightmare to convert then I will gladly hang back and wait for the right 4x4 to pop up.

i mean..idk. You can find 4xd tacomas for pretty cheap right now..but you have to do the maintenance on them. If she wants a particular year of one or something or wants it to be super clean..gotta pay to play. As you know.

Plus i thought getting a bigger rig was in the works for the two of you? might as well get a double cab taco or 4runner or something that you can slowly build and make it more comfortable for the two of you to ride in.

I know BabyT is your rig and it works great for you in your solo man lifestyle trips and all. Not saying get rid of him. But for longer trips with the gal..as you were saying yesterday..to fit her "higher standards of living" it might be smart to get a rig to do that at some point.

Doesn't have to have 35s and all. Im perfectly happy with the way Igor sits right now to take camping with Devin and all. It is very nice with two people. Frank needs some tweaking in that department because i built him with me in mind(still do pretty much) not "us" in mind..ya know?

Unless you find a donor truck it could take awhile to source all the parts at a good price. I mean for 4K more I think it's worth not doing the work yourself. Just from a finding the time standpoint.

In the end it will be her decision since she will be paying for it. I would just be the one working on it . She is interested in tundras, 4runners, and tacomas. The only thing we need different from the reg cab is a back seat for the dogs. Though, I think a camper shell will solve that because then the dogs can hang out in there and we will have the back window to interact. She is actually awesome to camp/wheel with. We both live out of a backpack and carry the bare minimum for the most part. Guess those are the perks of dating a biologist . She enjoys the comforts of truck camping (aka, having a real stove...and thats about it). The only uncomfortable part is that the passenger cant lean back for a nap with the bench seat. So road trips can be less than comfortable.

I was referring to her "higher standards of living" in regards to housing. She loves to host so having a house that's presentable means a lot to her. Whereas with me I could care less what the place looked like as long as it was functional and worked well for Ash.

    well..this is what i meant.

Depends on what you end up doing though. Be PLENTY to do around you in a short distance so maybe road trips won't be a thing. But going down to Utah..or AZ...or CO..or up to BC or Alberta...then a bit more comfort i can see being nice.

But sounds like you guys have a good thing going and it'll work out no matter what.

No worries, Ill message you first thing. I will gladly bypass the tire kicking process and trying to explain the mods to someone who has no idea what I am talking about.

If it's someone you like and live where it snows it's kinda dumb to not have a 4wd

yeah by then he will probably be shopping for those..i know i would right now. Better aftermarket support. And some are getting VERY cheap. Hell you can get a nicely built one to continue modding for a good price now.
