That's my take and even if you're weeping just a little bit and no sign of drip, just inform the dealer you might need the parts and carry on until they arrive then drop off for repair.

A drop of oil can leave a pretty big weep mark and if there's no evidence of a pool in the driveway the tiny amount lost should hold you over until more parts to correct are available after notification.

Not sure about the capacity of the diff, too lazy to look it up now but I know it's 1.6 quarts up front, a few drops or teaspoons of loss in the back shouldn't make too much of a difference between now and June.

Most pics I've seen appear to be weeping of a few teaspoons or less. Certainly not enough to be pulling the chicken switches like a lot of the posters are here.

Yes it should be fixed if leaking or weeping, catastrophic situation right now? Not so much as long as you continue to monitor until you get it in. Probably wouldn't hurt to check torque to ensure you're not fingertight but don't go overboard with a newly bought torque wrench if you don't know what you're doing.

Same thing I was told as well. They are 'hoping' for recall parts to arrive
    in July.......hoping.

Funny my dealer called me today to schedule my 20,000 mile maintenance. I told them to call back in about 30 days cause right now I only have 18, 000 miles. I then waited to see if he would mention the diff recall. Not a damn word from him. He then goes on to ask me if I would be interested in an extended warranty. WTF.....you animals have a recall on this truck and you are asking me if I want to buy your extended warranty. I don't want to hear anything from Toyota except for a resolution to the recall and howling diff

Have you plugged your VIN to see if your truck is affected? This recall doesn't affect all trucks (like mine) right now.

Do you think he's supposed to mention it prior to the formal notification period?

Contrary to popular belief the dealer doesn't employ a bunch of wizards that perform magic on your truck.

Does it make you scared that I live about ten minutes from the dealer and I'll just be checking it myself because it's not worth my time to drive there and have then do it.

The final fix has always been there, if it leaks they replace the gasket and bolts. Says it right on the recall info. But all trucks that are listed are being held until Toyota has enough parts to proceed forward. Guys who have leaks and are not on the list, had trucks repaired and sent on their way.

I'm not sure if there is a formal notification period. I brought my truck into the dealer, and they recall came right up.

My statement was in regard to what @viking15 said, appearing angry the dealer hadn't mentioned the recall automatically during his phone conversation. It IS possible his truck isn't affected by the recall and if so would be a legitimate reason for the dealer to not bring it up.

Possible that the recall won't come up until he's at the dealer and they scan his VIN.

Let dealer do it. If they snap a bolt it's on them.

I'm wondering about the fluid film on everything. I cleaned it off around the diff but it's only going to be a month before they look at it. If there was any seeping I cleaned it off! Pain in the butt recall! My 07 had recalls but never any oil leak ones..

So my dealer said there was no issue with my truck after inspection yet even with that they're supposed to re torque the bolts or whatnot per the recall notice, right? Shouldn't the paperwork note they did this procedure per the recall? My didn't, just there's no issue.

Absolutely and I understand what you mean.

My point being why @viking15 gets mad now just because the dealer rep didn't happen to mention the recall in that conversation then post about it, inferring the dealership has no idea what's going on regarding the trucks in general and is just soliciting for more money by offering extended coverage. Makes the dealership appear unscrupulous when all they did was a courtesy call reminding him about an upcoming maintenance check.

I know you wouldn't have an answer to why someone else responded the way they did, that's why my question was directed at him.

I hope this is correct, only re torquing needed.

Today I went to the dealer to see if I can just get my truck back until they have the parts ready for a fix. After some time during which time they said they were discussing with "Toyota corporate", they said that yes, there is a procedure to get my truck back but this includes signing a statement that releases them from liability including liability from any further damage from driving it. They said they could re torque it for now.

I thought about it but decided to just let them keep it and deal with the loaner which may be half the summer... or more. I also felt better because I am told they are storing my truck covered.

For now I'm just going to let them iron out the protocol.

Not really upset about the recall, I just wish there wasn't this huge gap of potential time during which they confiscate our vehicles with no ETA. I imagine their lawyers probably wanted to announce the recall ASAP.

Well my truck is not on this recall list but I did check my diff and it has a small leak about the size of a dime on it. When I take it in for its 20000 mile check up I will have the dealer fix it. I am just tried of them trying to sell me sh@@ when they should show some concern as to the overall state of the truck and my driving experience with the truck. I don't have any other problems except with the howling diff and I would think by now they would have had a solution inn place to fix this.

I had to sign a release when Toyota wanted to cut my gas pedal on my 07 and I wouldn't let them.
