Well put the new cat on and fixed the rear main seal..now to tackle the vibration at idle...it runs good just vibrates a lot...Does anybody have any ideas why...no more CEL...after the new cat.. but dont really notice any improvement in power..

hmmmmm..........lemme think about this one for a few. how bad is the vibe...and does it go away when you put it into gear?? you can still sea`foam the whole intake/combustion chamber...usually, that cures a rough idle.

sometimes, they can vibrate a lil more, or really, you'll notice it a little bit more.

you can run it thru there, but i'd run it slowly thru the brake booster, a lil easier to get that hose in the can, and it will clean everything. do it slowly tho, and use about a 3rd to half a can(pint).

I just had the same problem with my 2.7. Went though did plugs, wires, cap, rotor, Cleaned MAF&IAC, Sea Foamed Intake, put some in the gas tank. And when I had the intake off to clean I noticed a huge crack in the exhaust manifold. It caused the A/F sensor to read lean and it dumps a bunch of fuel making it vib at idle and stumble off the line. It is a common problem on Gen 1. Might take a look. Hope this helps.

I noticed the same problem in my truck - at idle it vibrates a ton.
The exhaust manifold is cracked in half and has another large crack on it as well.

Is there a good way to fix this? - JB weld burned right up and I can't find a junkyard that has any tacos at all.

didn't mean to jump in on your thread, but I am confirming that a cracked exhaust manifold can cause a lot of vibration.

well that might be why mine idles roughl. but it needs a new cat on it. i think i might change my plugs and wires and things first. what is seafoam and how do you use it. i thought it was only for diesels.

my 2.7L does this also, at red lights it has a pretty annoying vibration, if i shift out of D and back it will stop but when the motor settles again, the vibration will start again. its been doing this for the longest time and i just thought it was normal. I was told that the rubber exhaust hangers can start some harmonic motion whcih i believed because most of the time my exhaut tips would vibrate if they were loose until i got them re-located and secured better. but i also do hear a kind of sputter coming from the engine bay at certain speeds so i have been checking for a leak around the headers but have yet to find it??(i can hear it sputtering against curbs) could this be causing the vibrations even though the vibrations started a long while before i heard the leak??

I also have this problem, just bought a 2003 Tacoma 76K 2.7L Auto 4x4. When I'm stopped at a red light it vibrates like crazy, but when i put it in neutral it stops. Last weekend I did plugs, air filter, changed the oil over to 0W-30 Mobil 1 with a K&N oil filter, and Zmaxx into the oil and fuel. Truck idled a little smooter at lights, but still not cured completely.
I heard from some people that the motor mounts are notorious for causing this problem, but I had mine checked out and those are fine. The exhaust manifold thing also makes sense, but I had the truck thoroughly inspected and it has no exhaust leaks at all.
I think I'm just going to seafoam the thing tomorrow then live with it if it doesn't stop. After all, it is a 4 cylnder so it is going to have to work harder when it's in gear.
If anyone comes up with anything else please let me know, I'll let you know how the seafoam works out.

Its normal guys. Most small automatic vehicles will vibrate when stopped, especially in drive. My buddies old taco did it, my dads Hyundai Accent :anonymous: does it, and my buddies new 3rd gen 4 runner does it.
