The setback IMO will give you an issue. The angle will change more as it goes back. Going forward won't be the issue. It's turning and the turbulence from that will upset the inlet. Myself I would start even with the bottom of the transom.

That's where I intend to start, it's a slight V so I need to measure off the edges of the foot so they aren't below the hull.
Did you ever have one or help a buddy set one up, our local marine dealer doesn't have very much experience with them and I think the ones that do along the Delaware River pretty well rely on installing jack plates. I have seen quite a few boats with the risers on them so it's definitely doable but a PITB to make it adjustable. Yea, too low and drag plus water spraying back in the boat, too high and cavitation, sweet spot is somewhere in the middle!

Morning all:wave:. Happy Saturday. Getting tired of all the rain. Got back last night from our 2 week road trip and had rain most of the time we were driving(seemed like 2800 miles of rain out of the 3750 miles we drove ). Had some nice days when we did stop for a day or two. Good to be home.

Welcome home, Ken! I'm tired of the rain, too. Trying to find time to cut the grass but can't seem to get a stretch long enough where it dries out. Poured again here this AM.

Thanks Mark. Always good to get home. Looks like the sun is trying to come out but they are calling for more rain later in the day.:annoyed:

Good morning! Thankfully, it's been raining off and on all night here...........................:annoyed: Forecast is for the same all afternoon. We really need to dry out a bit. I need to get the grass cut before it engulfs the house.

I helped set one up. It was a flat however. It was funny having set it up for one and having two in the boat made a difference.
You may need to have it lower than you think because of the v and the cavitation off the end of it.
I maybe wrong. But I know why the jack plates to get away from the end of the boat and cleaner water.
All I can say is set it even and give it a shot. Once you get it set close then get another body in the boat and try it. If you need to move it and it doesn't change the outcome then you may need to get a jack plate. But it will be fun trying..
Oh yea. Be right on that throttle. You don't want to zing the engine if you cav.

 sixtys and Susan. A bit of a lazy day here today, crummy cold weather and a bunch of little odds n' ends to do around the house. We have a fire going to cut the dampness and chill. I might even get a few chapters done in my book!

Thanks Mike, good information! I am trying to initially set it up low and modifying the riser to be able to raise it up if needed. Everything I have read so far doesn't want any part of the leading edge of the foot below the hull. This particular Tracker has a very slight V, think it's 3 deg.,the newer ones have more of a V, think they are now 7deg.

When I was racing I had a deep transome mount on the motor. I would just use a square stock wood shim to raise the motor and test. Was very quick to do. I would do it right in the middle of the lake sometimes

The ruffed grouse is the thunder chicken because it drums it's wings on hollow logs. Native American lore.

Sorry for the mistake. Was referring to the booming gobble of a male turkey.

Although we do not have any ruffed grouse here, we have a very good population of turkeys including the kind with feathers.

    Morning all:
Thanks for the congrats on getting the bird, now back to reality; need to sharpen LM blades then grass needs mowing and trimming, need to get that riser done, need to clean the gun and put the turkey hunting gear away, just washed the Tacoma which was a mess, plus a few other things! :annoyed:

Happy to get a turkey Gary, love hearing them gobble at a good distance away and then trying to call them in, then the gobble gets louder and louder as they get closer and then time to get ready because he's going to show up soon---MAYBE!
First time I ever used a red dot scope for anything, different prospective seeing that bright little red dot right on the head of the turkey, I like!

You may both be right on the "thunder chicken", even in our area I have heard it used for both birds depending on who you are talking to. My one buddy calls the turkeys "mountain chickens", that could fit the ruff grouse also!
