I will have to try the traction off. I tried it once and felt no difference. I will try again. Can you actually burn out then?

Is traction control doing this even when the light isn't blinking? I know I get it when I am really hard into a corner and the rear kicks out but am curious if it's also doing it other times.

I know the guys who are working on the engine tune that's coming out soon mentioned that the ECU itself decides at low RPMs to limit throttle to like 45% no matter how hard you press it, just cause it's a dick.

I've found that you can never turn it off fully enough to burn out. There's always a nanny now matter how much or how hard you press that button.

I am not advocating that you should turn off the traction control every time you get in the truck. It does however change the feel of the experience of driving.

Has anyone driven an automatic 3rd gen? I hear a lot of talk about the transmissions being jerky or shifting weird... luckily we don't have to worry about this :D but just wondering if it's really that bad?? and to think I almost didn't get a manual...

Are you guys just pushing the button or holding it down? I know for mine I have to hold it down to turn everything off for something like 5 seconds. I can light up the tires just fine. The day I got my ECU reflashed for the supercharger I found somewhere with no other cars around, and by that I mean a closed race track, and lit up the stock tires through to third gear. Fun stuff. Have embarassed myself a couple times trying to do it around friends like a teenager and forgot to turn anything off and got a minor chirp out of it and then nothing.

(This was before I even heard about Tacomaworld, so I'd never heard of any complaints at that point.)

I test drove an SR5 auto. The trans seemed fine, but I only drove it for about 20 min and not much above 55-60 MPH. I did tell the salesman that it felt a little rough over bumps. That was really my only complaint.

About a month later, I test drove an Off Road. When I put it in drive, it felt as if someone bumped into me. While driving, the shifts were noticeable and rough. Didn't experience any gear hunting though. Only drove that one about 20 min and kept it about 50 MPH and below the entire time. The suspension was much more plush than the SR5.

Then I discovered Tacomaworld. And I bought a manual. And I have a big smile on my face every time I drive it.

Yes on the 3rd gen you press it once and it puts it in Auto LSD. Then press and hold it 10-15 seconds and it turns off traction control.

Genuinely curious to know why not? Wouldn't this give you a more linear response to your gas pedal inputs, like a cable operated system, just like my much beloved '92 no-name pick up? We've all survived driving in vehicles w/o the nanny-minders watching over our shoulders.

Basically I made that post to avoid the shit show of negative comments I got the last time I mentioned doing this.

The dealer gave me a 17 OR for an extended test drive for a few days, l hated it with a passion with it constantly up and down shifting.

Mostly happy with the manual, but the throttle definitely does have a mind of its own. I definitely have experienced the "less power after more throttle" a couple of times. Wonder if that's part of it still learning. That said the OVS tune being discussed in the more power thread is very intriguing, especially if it can get the throttle to do what my foot says, and nothing else..

you can also consider the Pedal Commander to help the throttle problem. I'm using it until a good tune shows.

I went wheelin last weekend for a solid 2 days so I tried different configurations and settings while I was out there.

What I found out was that the truck bogs wayyyy too much when I had it in 2nd gear, even in 4 Low. This was very annoying and would stop me from climbing a steep hill dead in my tracks. I would have to keep it in 1st to climb anything more than a 20deg. incline. The truck acts as if it has 120hp.

When I took the traction control completely off by holding the button down for a couple secs, the issue is a bit better, but its not fixed by any means. Its not that the engine is bad, or that it has a lack of power mechanically, it really seems that the computer is absolutely retarded and is limiting the power when it doesn't need to.

Im sure OVtune or even a pedal commander would fix my issues.

I'm pretty sure its a combination of how the engine makes power at higher revs, so more throttle isn't necessarily going to give you more power when you're at lower rpms and traction control. As soon as you punch it the tires want to start slipping and the computer clamps down on everything. But probably leaning more towards the 3.5 not having much low end grunt.
