    Thanks,
Can you measure from the top of the springpack to the axle.

top of springs to top of axle looks to be about 2.5", its a tough place to get a measurement using my tape measure

ok, cheap dial caliber says combined spring pack at thickest part is 1.70", or including hte U bolt shackles, 2.40". this measurement does NOT include the welded-on platform on top of the axle that the spring pack rests on

Thanks, I appreciate you doing that and those measurements should answer my question.

I had the truck in today for some normal service and I asked them to check and see if they would transfer my Icon AAL from the old pack to the new replacement pack. Well they just did the recall without talking to me and installed the new pack with out my AAL. Hopefully they kept them in the shop like I asked and I can get my parts and re-install the AAL myself to the new pack. Super frustrating.

My 2008 TRD Sport already has an AAL with the 3 pack leaf assembly so the new leaf spring assembly is about the same height as what I have now. If they put the new leaf springs, which is a 4 pack and the AAl it would be too high for the Ride Rite air bag bracket and it would not make contact with the axle unless I get an extension. After reading through this thread and some of the bad reviews on the new springs I've decided to stick with what I have now and decline the recall. The service technician at our local dealership said the AAL I have is stronger than what's on the new ones. I've got an overhead popup camper which is right at 1200# that I've had on some pretty rough roads and carried some pretty heavy loads of firewood with no problems so far at 145,000 miles.

Usually the stealership will have any information on the truck regarding recall work and tsb work. I'd call and ask them about it and see if they can look up your truck and see what's been done or not been done.
If you only have 3 leafs then you most likely qualify for the recall. The last recall (before the one discussed in this thread) that was done replaced the old 3 leaf packs with 4 leaf packs

    You're welcome.
There used to be a pdf or a picture of the criteria that toyota looks for when the inspect the the truck. I believe it stated that if you have the 3 leaf pack with 3 clips then you get the replacement pack and if you have 4 leafs with 6 clips then you've already had the other recall done. Im not 100% sure about that last statement so don't quote me but I remember my old leafs had 4 leafs (3 leaf Springs and 1 overload spring) with 3 clips.
I wish I could find that pdf to be sure though

The number of leaves is not relevant in determining if the recall has been performed. There are "post recall" 2+1 spring packs available.

Here is the thing about the recall... it has NOTHING to do with making the spring less prone to breaking, and *EVERYTHING* to do with those clips you mentioned. Their purpose is just to keep the leaves in line WHEN they break, so that they don't swing out sideways and break things, like your gas tank or brake lines. I.e., its a "safety" recall, not a "quality" recall.

The easiest way to determine if your springs qualify for a recall is to look at the clips that are riveted onto the OVERLOAD leaf. If there is only ONE clip on the overload, then the recall applies. If there are TWO clips on the overload, you're screwed.

The total number of clips for post-recall springs will be 4 for 2+1 leaves, or 6 for 3+1 leaves.

All vehicles shipping AFTER OCTOBER 2010 will have the updated springs.

My springs were 'upgraded' on the recall a few months ago. got home from my first semi-serious 4x4 trip, and drop the car off at my indie for scheduled service (basically just an oil change). mentioned I'd been 4x4'ing so he did a thorough chassis inspection, and found the rear axle shackles that hold the axle to the springs were very loose :-O glad it didn't break somewhere on North Pass in Death Valley or it would have been a /long/ walk out of there. he also thanked me for washing the undercarriage before bringing the truck in :)

I checked my vin and the recall hasn't been completed. I notice it says they'll inspect the leaf springs and "if necessary" they'll replace them. So I'm assuming they'll just look at them and if they're not broke or rusty I won't get new ones?

Check to see how many clips you have on your leaf springs. If your 07 has never had the springs replaced under this recall then you should have the leaf pack with 3 clips like my 07 had in which case they will replace them with the new leaf springs.

I called two different dealers and they both said they are out of leaf springs and don't know when they will get any more, apparently there's a waiting list.

Mine are squeaking badly, I'm hoping I can pressure wash and grease them and it'll quieten them down enough until I can get new ones.

    Update:
One of the dealers called me back and said they have a shipment coming in next week. Apparently each dealer is only allowed to receive 6 sets per week, and 4 of those are already spoken for.

Got mine replaced yesterday. I've noticed that the number on this is different than others on this thread. I don't have a lift, it's all stock. Is that what the difference is?
