Onstar uses cellular service, not satellite for communication. No device on your vehicle is sending any transmission into space to a satellite. Recieving information from a satellite, such as gps is rather trivial, but sending information to a satellite takes a lot more. I'm not saying that there aren't devices that can (sat-phones) but they are expensive purpose built pieces of hardware that your vehicle doesn't come with from the factory.

Alright, after some refresher research, you guys are right. The passive GPS does all calculations onboard.

I thought they used both. According to them:
OnStar Service works using cellular or other wireless phone networks in the continental United States, Alaska, Hawaii and Canada, as well as the Global Positioning System ('GPS') satellite network. OnStar services are not available everywhere, particularly in enclosed or remote areas.

The do use GPS to determine your position, but that is Rx only. There is no Tx to the GPS satellite. All transmissions are terrestrial and are done on the cellular network.

That makes me wonder because we have a mix of phones and there are places where I live that if you don't have Verizon you don't have service yet there are places where Verizon also has no service yet my Onstar has great reception.

I had a 2002 A6 2.7T with a lot of modifications made to the engine and drivetrain. It was fun, but never again...

I pinstriped my new Taco before it hit 700 miles on the odometer lol. This FG400 stuff worth it, then?

The short answer is yes. So you can ignore the rest of this and Google it and buy some or if you are intrigued, you can read on.

I am by no means a professional but I have used quite a few and have found the FG400 to be the best that I used. Every time I try the latest greatest I end up going back to it. I learned about it from the detailing site detailingdomain.com. The owner of that shop does some serious high end vehicles and if it is his go to product then that is convincing enough to me. While the finish is excellent, the other part of the equation is the time it takes to complete the paint correction. If you are doing this for a business then a product that can save you time will save you money. I have found FG400 to produce the best results with the least amount of time. And no, I do not have stock in the country or get any kick backs from detailingdomain.com, although I should since I have bought enough from them and recommended them enough. Check out their site and their sister site, detailingbliss.com. Detailingbliss.com is the online forum for detailersdomain.com and has some great write-ups that really do a nice job showing before and after pictures and an excellent job describing exactly what products and tools were used to achieve the results they end up with.

Mine was a 05 C55 AMG with Kleemann headers/tune amongst some other things. Made 410hp/425tq ran high 12s. I bought semi slicks but never took it to the strip with them on...probably could hit mid 12's with those on. It was actually really reliable for a German since it was an n/a 5.4 v8, but if anything broke it was always cost an arm and a leg. Sold it since it was coming up to 90k miles and needed all 16 spark plug/spark plug wires replaced along with a tranny rebuild (starting to slip) from beating on it so much. Fun car though, love mercedes' big v8s.

Here's a quick run of it somewhere in Mexico on a private street...

Only if you have a dual action buffer. If you go wheeling often and care about removing pinstriping at least once a year I'd definitely invest in a dual action buffer (porter cable XP or even harbor freight) and a microfiber pad. FG400 doesn't work by hand along with all polishes.

    I use:
    Porter cable XP
    Meguiar's microfiber pad
    Menzerna FG400
    Menzerna Powerlock Sealant

Mine had headers, uppipe, custom K04 turbos, full stainless millitek exhaust, Oct bits, a custom tune, new fuel system, 6mt.

425hp, 475tq. It was so much fun... but 5k for a tranny and rear differential seal...

Took it to my local dealership to have the stereo and transmission updates completed. Also had them check the rear differential and grease the zerks. Fingers crossed the transmission runs smoother. It wasn't horrible but did get annoying when I would get around 3000 Rpm's and the truck would hunt for the next gear. Fingers crossed..

Thought I'd post this interesting Mercedes pick up truck. Funny, looks a lot like a DCSB.
