When I first get in my truck and pull out onto the main road in the mornings (cold clutch, damp out), I sometimes get a stutter as it is catching at the friction point.

I know exactly what you're talking about. I've been driving Subaru / Ford MTs forever, and this is my first Tacoma. I’ve found that giving it a bit more gas than I would have been used to in the past while rolling off in 1st gear helps. It’s been about 6mo / 13k miles now and I hardly get that stutter any more.

I could be wrong, but I think it's that if it’s under-gassed, there’s just not enough torque at low RPM to get the truck / wheel-side clutch plate moving smoothly. These are truck MTs though, so they can take a bit more of a beating than regular cars. Put a little more power through the clutch and should be a smooth take-off.

Just took a bit of getting used to, that’s all.

I think I have felt that. I just give it more gas or slip the clutch just a touch more.

Yes. Mine will stutter if I don't give it enough gas. Like the other people said give it more gas or slip it a bit more. It took me awhile to get my technique down so it wouldn't stutter in this truck and sometimes when I'm lazy with the gas it'll do it. I learned how to drive stick on my other car which has a MUCH more sensitive gas pedal so that probably has something to do with it.

Yeah coming from a GTI it's definitely different - and I get the engine stutter sometimes if the RPMs fall too low, it's just such an odd one when its the clutch slipping/stuttering. I honestly was worried I messed it up when I burnt it up a bit four wheeling the first time (truck doesn't have enough low-end torque when your not in 4low off-road - especially sand)
