Exactly you wheel then figure out what you can't and can do then build your truck to suit you needs and wants. You'll make mistakes but you'll learn from them.

Precisely. The less, equipment-wise, you have to rely on, the more you more you need to learn skills and exactly what it is you will need once you decide to further equip yourself. While there are inherent risks involved with stock wheeling over modded wheeling, I feel that the net results of stock wheeling outweigh the risks of stock wheeling. I have limited experience, and I haven't done anything crazy, but the most damage I've done is tore up my factory skids and damaged a swaybar end link. Those are very minor, and when compared to the skill and knowledge gained from those times, the smaller they seem.

This is a great example of why it's better to do things before you start shelling out money. You know what you want from your truck and so now you know what you need to buy. If everyone did w/e other people do, there would be a lot of people left with vehicles that can do things they don't need and not necessarily the thing they do need. I could be an example of this. I don't have interest in hunting nor fishing, so if I tailored my truck towards an end goal similar to yours, I wouldn't really be too much more equipped to do what I want to do with my truck, which, at this point, is wheeling; specifically rock crawling, as that is what the local region's terrain consists of.

    You are fake news

I like being comfortable enough to say "yes I can do this trail and bounce off some shit because I have skids and sliders." Doesnmt make me invincible but there is less "banging important things off shit" factor when you have some protection...

And no its not like having protected sex with a chick with herpegonahcyphylaids... Because I ain't about that life

Most of the guys here spent yrs on their build and it's full of trial and error. So don't get discouraged if you're not where you think you should be. It takes time, money, and it never ends.

Oh having protection certainly eases worry and allows for greater #NFG wheeling. That's a given. And that's part of why wheeling with more mods is arguably more fun. It allows you to do more and to do things more comfortably and focus more on the activity and less on the possible negative results of that activity. I am, in no way, against wheeling with mods. Hell, if I had the money, I'd definitely have more mods than I have right now. But one can be in favor of both modded wheeling and stock wheeling. They both have their undeniable benefits. I just think the thought that stock wheeling almost guarantees damage and therefore should not be done is a bad one. There is unique fun to the careful, learning-based wheeling of stock wheeling that is mitigated or removed the more a truck is modded. And there is skill to be gained from wheeling stock that either cannot be gained from wheeling modded or, more likely, simply isn't gained as much.

With that said, I really look forward to the day I get to wheel with loads of mods! :burnrubber:

Yeah there is a lot of overlap in these hobbies. So modding for one purpose is typically not exclusively assisting with one interest. But I think it makes more sense to mod with as much precision as possible. Especially when money is an issue. Best to get the most out of the mods you buy with your money.

Yeah, I've noticed. While you have some guys like @Sub-Zero who seem to go ham with the mods, it's more common to see a very slow progression. At first, I was worried that I was taking too long to get my truck where I'd like it, but honestly it's not a big deal. In addition to non-truck related things sucking money (new GPU is much appreciated :p), I have been focusing on maintenance a lot since I've had the truck. Sure, doing maintenance further delays the fun stuff, but who gives a shit about crazy modded truck if it's regularly out of commission cuz another part failed?

Well luckily, you're modding one type of vehicle with overlapping interests. So even if you decide you aren't interested in X, the mod you did for it could still benefit Y. It'd be a different story if you suddenly decided you wanted to lower your truck and turn it into a drift missile lol.

Hows about we start with making you a skid plate... should be about 40 bucks in metal and a 30 rack of Miller Lite.
