Not even sure where and how to start this rant. Not sure if it's due to my past great experience with other tire shops when you're spending 12-1500 dollars regularly(Les Schwab, Advantage tire, Oregon companies). The amount of upselling, the amount of time it takes to get a rotation done, and the corporate BS that is handed out there is beyond comprehension.

1.5 hours minimum to get a rotation. This is after making an appointment. Quick side note. I'm in there signing in, guy walks in off the street and gets a 1 hour 10 min wait. I made an appointment a week and a half earlier. I get 1 hour and 5 minute wait time! WTF!!! 5 minutes is all I saved? No, I didn't even save that, I was on hold and talked for more than 5 minutes.
Other companies(30 min with appt) for comparison.

I've gotten the how unsafe spacers are on the truck, not once, but three fucking times! Here comes the upsale! I can get you rims that will fit your vehicle and you won't need these because your wheels will fly off your truck!

Every rotation is met with this, Hi there, how long have you had the spacers on the truck? Since day 5 of owning 90+ thousand miles, 40+ thousand miles since THEY installed the tires.

In conclusion, STAY AWAY if you value your time and money. My tires expired early due to me not having an extra 2 hrs to get a simple rotation done. I could go on and on.

Tire rotations are a racket, GET A JACK STAND AND A BREAKER BAR AND DO THEM YOURSELF!

Serious question, whats the point of a spacer?

What's so hard to do your own rotation? 1.5 hr to wait for a nobody to rotate your tires????

Some flags and center console divider... lots of things on the wanted list.
Is it the same tire rotation specialist who rotates them for you every time? Same manager? I mean, I'm sure out of the 5000 customers they see a month that he remembers you and your spacers so well that he just does this to piss you off.

Only thing I use them for anymore is to swap the IDs of the pressure sensors in the computer when I swap to road trip tires/wheels.

Jack stands and a torque wrench ftw

What is an ID of a pressure sensor, and do you really own multiple tires/wheels for roadtrips?

I have a set of mud tires for the summer/off roading. And the oem wheels/tires for road trips. When I move back north, those will be replaced with snow tires.

Unless I think my tires are out of balance, I use a floor jack and two jack stands and rotate my own tires. The tire stores always want me to leave the truck so they can take their time, and call me when it's done. I prefer to wait, but the 90 minutes minimum isn't worth it.

lol, I've been going to a local discount tire for 10 years now and have never had an issue. If you go at peak times, expect a wait. I've never had a rotation or install take more than an hour when they're busy. You can't really blanket the whole company as "stay away" when you just have shit experiences at your local store...quit being a child and crying...why do you keep going there if they're so bad?? o_O:rofl:

Discount is BAD NEWS and I have learned long ago not to deal with them. I went in there to buy some rims to get tires installed on from Costco and they were RELENTLESS with their BS! One time I had them hard sell me on some tires so I got them to give me a great deal on some slightly better version of the same tire. I had a suspicion they were going to mess with me so I waited till they were done, they gave me the keys and when I went out to my truck they gave me the cheaper version. I had to go in, bring it up to all of their confusion and wait for them to put the right ones on. They did the same thing to a friend only he had the good sense to drive them until the first rotation and bring it up to get the new ones.

I don't even know what to say about that place but it's not worth the trouble when I have a Costco right around the corner. I would never in a million years buy from Discount Tire again!

Sorry about your experience, that sucks!

Polar Opposite in my dealings with Discount Tire. Never an issue, always great service, even had to use the replacement certs in the past. No questions asked new set of tires on in an hour. Issue with two of my BFG's.

Find a local tire shop that you can trust based on referrals.

At my local shop I get a set of 4 Cooper tires (standard stock size) balanced and mounted for $602 out the door. I usually get 40,000 miles out of them -- Tire rotation every 5000 miles costs $15 and I'm in and out in 20 minutes.

^^ This. nothing but good dealings with my local DT. I have spacers, and they check them every rotation / balance, no issues

I have two Discount Tires in my area. I ha e been using both interchangeably for the past 15 years. I have always received great service, and never had an issue of any kind. Then again, I always make an effort to avoid peak service times.

I suggest the OP put his big boy pants on and start rotating his own tires.

So maybe there was a little mix up and you had to wait longer?

You're lucky they worked on your truck at all given the spacers, some places won't touch them due to liability issues.

I have no loyalty to discount, but I read your post expecting to be shocked about something Discount has done, because I do go there occasionally. Instead read a whiney rant about how things didn't go your way one day, how you're annoyed by the techs telling you spacers are dangerous (they're probably required to), and how they try to sell you an alternative... because they're a business and need to sell things... you can politely decline.

If Discount really fucks something up, then get back to the message board

I've bought about 6 sets of tires from DT over the years and all my dealings with them were very good. I do all the rotations. Doesn't take too long with the right stuff. Then I can make sure my wheels are torqued to the exact specs.

I use a place called I-5 tire in Creswell, Oregon. I have my oil changed and my tires rotated every other oil change (tire rotations are free). I drop off my truck, walk down the street to the little Mexican place and have something to eat and the tire place usually calls me before I'm done eating saying my truck is done and waiting for me. And they are the ones that installed my spacers for me so I never get any flack about those at all ever. Works out pretty well for me.

You realize that while DT is a big time company, that you are working with (or against) local management, right?

It's your local store that's the issue, not DT per se.

So instead of being the victim over and over, just either DIY or find another store who provides better service. It's not like they are the only game in town. You do have choices.

Everyone upsells. Even McDonald's. If you ever work in a retail enviroment, or own your own business, you will too. Get over it. Smile, say no thank you, move along. Popping a blood vessel over something so mundane is silly.

Wanted them to put on my wife's winter tires and wanted to charge her $120+. She casually says "my husband said it shouldn't be that expensive" and magically says $90. I call and they tell me it's $80.

Got them mounted that day but take everything to a local family business who has treated me well in the past now.
