Do you have an offroad or sport model? Sports tend to have stiffer suspension than an off road does. Depends on who you ask, but nice suspension in aftermarket coilovers and rear shocks can def help the ride have a more comforting ride.

You can try lowering the tire pressure a bit which may help. The added weight from the canopy will definitely help too. Obviously both of these will also impact your gas mileage.

Have you tried the new Ridgeline? It gets a lot of flak on here, but it might be the perfect fit if you're wanting something more like a car but with some truck capabilities...

Is your tire pressure too high?

Having the long bed will help a lot, it's head & shoulders ahead of the SB, but adding a set of P265/65/17 (I have the BFGoodrich rugged terrain) tires on 17X8 rims, will do a total re-do as far as comfort and stability to your driving enjoyment. Been there done that.

    Edit: I recommend these rims:

All joking aside, this could be the truck you are looking for actually as well. For those who like the "utility" of the truck, but don't necessarily care for the off road side of the house this tends to fit the bill. Not to say that a ridgeline is strictly a road warrior, but I think the dirt is where the Tacoma shines.

I think he is a legit "new guy." He may not be familiar with the normal forum traditions like searching and stuff, but I don't see any heckling/negative demeanor here. We were all new once.

The OP is asking opinions on how to make his truck ride better, I give him my professionally picked and factory approved set up that rides way better over a stock truck, verified by me personally by comparing to other stock equipped trucks and he throws a comment that it will make the ride worse??

He maybe forum ignorant or forum mentally challenged by not understanding what the OP is asking, either way, he maybe joining my ignore list if he turns out to be a slow learner.

I was under the impression OP had test drove a Tacoma and was asking questions about improving the ride, not that he owned one already... Guess that makes looking at alternative vehicles a moot point.

I understand where you are coming from, at the same time I almost quoted him asking if you meant with your approach if modifying his vehicle would be a positive or negative as well as the verbage left me a little confused.

Not trying to make waves as Im simply asking here, but as far as your "professional" opinion, do you mind if I ask how that comes to be? Is it being from a testing company with a plethora of data, having owned several different set ups, been in the off-road scene and TW for a while? I have recommendations just like the next guy, doesn't always mean my perspective is "gold" if you will. Again, not to mean any offense, just curious as I know we got some pretty skilled members on here.

As far as the OP, guy has had 4 messages so far. I know I have seen guys banned with less of a count, but I think its a little early to judge a guy who might honestly be asking questions as he doesn't know as well as you or me might.

I think he's on the right track - add the canopy weight and air down to an acceptable psi. I don't think any aftermarket suspension within reason will cush-out the ride.

I let it slide the last time I read this but I'm taking shots now. You exaggerating the difference a long bed makes. I'm not denying a longer wheelbase does make a difference but I've driven a long bed and it's a minuscule difference at most. If you hid the back of the truck 99% of drivers would not be able to tell if they were driving a SB or LB.

If you want to improve how it handles "obstacles" such as potholes you can beef up the suspension with Bilstein 6112 coilovers up front and 5160s in the rear with a 3-leaf Progressive AAL. I know for my truck this markedly improved the offroad ride comfort and performance. This will give your truck a very mild lift as well. If you are driving a Sport get rid of the junk hitachi suspension. The SR5 suspension is not much better than the sport. TRD Offroad is more "cushy"

Or if you really want better handling then you could skip the Billy's and go right for Icon, Fox, or King suspension with reservoirs and control arms. Control arms help a lot with steering wheel bouncing over bumps and better coilovers and shocks will help absorb the bumps as well, better the parts you buy the better the ride can be essentially
