Just bought a 3rd Gen 2017 TRD off-road. Did I make a mistake?

Pockets used to be on back of both seats, Kaizen probably eliminated it.

My 2016 just rolled over 20000 and I haven't had any problems besides a small interior rattle, if your truck is not having any problems I wouldn't worry, alot of the stuff you read on here is somewhat blown out of proportion, every make and model is not without its issues

I love my 2017 OR. No problems here. The only mistake you made was getting it in Blue! :)

Read people's profile details before reading their comments, especially in the third gen section. You'll notice that the majority of turd gen hate comes from 2nd gen owners. Just look at this thread for instance. The only negative comments came from 2nd gen owners. Even smitty's comment was somewhat positive and he has had a much worse experience with his truck than the average owner.

    Haters gonna hate....

^^ This... I remember recalls came in all time time for the second gen over the 10 years I had it. The second gen made a crazy amount of road noise (I had an AC off road MT)... we just knew it came with the truck, so we didn't whine. I know this third gen will last just as long as my second gen.. but its A LOT more comfortable, quieter and refined. Exactly why I bought it. I think if you felt the 2nd generation needed no upgrade, maybe you would not like the new gen but for me it improved upon every complaint I had on the previous versions.

And to piggy-back off of this, if you think the 2nd gen didn't need any improvement, then you've either never driven one or have your head in the sand. The second gen was not without it's own problems but they seldom get brought up anymore because those problems (and that truck) are in the past. Nobody gives a shit anymore. If I hop in the second gen forum and start freaking out about recalls and frame rust, nobody will care because it's old news. There is an overwhelming amount of people in here who would love to see the third gen Tacoma fail/flop and thoroughly enjoy the shitshow that the 3rd Gen section often turns into. There are more posts of popcorn and memes than actual useful information lol. Many of these same people will end up buying a third gen down the road and will bash the 4th gen whenever that comes out. Memories are short.

I can't remember who it was that posted it on the forum, but its words to live by.

If you want to enjoy your new Tacoma, stay off of this forum.

I have learned what to avoid and what's worthwhile spending time reading.

Don't get me wrong, this forum is extremely helpful when you have questions, but lingering here will definitely make you paranoid. Haha

Probably not, the OP bought a manual. Best decision he made in my book, the only mistake he made was not posting pics of his new beauty!

I had 2 2nd Gen ACOR Manuals and do not remember having Recalls coming in all the time. I remember 1 for something being mismarked about a wheel or tire and 1 where they wanted to cut the gas pedal, other than that l was good to go.

    OP

    > Haters/complainers here are mostly those who bought A/T.

    > Coming to TW was definitely NOT a mistake for me. Actually I feel lucky that I found this forum because I learned quite a few good info like below:
    1. Having to fill grease on drive shaft jerk fitting locations
    2. Having to check/fill rear diff oil level.
    3. Special tool to remove the oil filter cover.
    4. Clazzio leather seat covers best fit/quality in the market (ordered!).
    5. URD exhaust system I bought.
And there are numerous other stuff.
The tip is that you ignore/skip useless complaints/comments and take in only that would help you. It's like going to a buffet restaurant. You only get what you want.

    > Bottom line is that you bought the
    1. Best looking/styling
    2. Latest design (bumper to bumper)
    3. Best resale value
    4. Most reliable brand (Toyota haters might chime in...).
    5. Best reputation mid size truck in the market.

    Enjoy!

If you enjoy driving the truck, you made a good choice. I'm in the camp of people who DO own a 3rd Gen and am unhappy with some of the quality issues I'm encountering, but I do believe they CAN be a good truck if you don't have those issues and agreed they look awesome and are perfectly capable.

I'm not really happy w/ mine right now for several reasons, and you'll likely hear the same from many others on here, but remember there are many more happy owners who don't post here than people who are dissatisfied. This is often a place that those who have issues and can't get help from dealerships / Toyota come to in hopes of diagnosing and learning how to correct problems.

So long as you keep TW in perspective, and focus you YOUR truck vs. everyone else's opinions you'll be fine. If YOU have issues, then you'll learn a LOT about them here to help you understand what's happening.

I have a 16 TRD Sport DC. I love it. Got it a year ago, has 85XX miles on it now. Only issue I have had was the radio. I have taken a 1600 mile round trip, road trip in it. Love it. Very comfortable with 3 adults. Enjoy your new ride. BTW. Not a bad price.
