Everyone needs to read this recall and check their VIN number.

When I heard about the recall I crawled under my Taco and discovered mine was leaking.
I took my Taco to the dealer and they handed me keys to a loaner vehicle and told me parts are not available yet and it could be a while before they are. Toyota doesn't want you to drive a "leaker" due to their liability so they are essentially impounding my vehicle.

Recall letters will not go out it until mid June. Toyota claims only 1% or about 3,000 U.S. Taco's will be effected.

Please post to this thread if you are or not a victim of this recall and which model 3rd Gen Taco you have.

I have a TRD Sport. I inspected a TRD 4x4 in a parking lot and didn't find a leak but the differential is different for the 4x4's so they may not be part of this recall.

    none yet/none planned! It's perfect!
Any idea if they have build dates that are excluded because of catching the problem? My date is 4/17.

Good luck with this op, I am staying clear of the dealer. Should of came here earlier and read the many threads that already exist on this topic, thanks for playing.

the pro isn't even effected, yet.
fuck the off roads aren't even yet lol.

You'll have to wait and see dude.
    I wouldn't doubt they're all effected though.

    OP's username is highly ironic.

Lots of threads on this. Also, 1% seems a little under the threshold that's been reported.

I guess I bungled my search because I didn't find anything in the forum on the recall. Sorry!

The disturbing part is if your diff is leaking and you wait for parts before taking it in you could experience catastrophic failure. If you take it in to the dealer now you could be driving a Camry for the next 3 months.

I don't trust the 1% guess of Toyota, my luck doesn't run that way. Please supply links to other threads on this subject.

Another note is that before failure you're going to notice a lot of noise coming from your rear axle. You have to be pretty good at ignoring noise to flip the truck, not to mention you are going to leak oil and likely noitice the oil spots before you have any real issue.

This recall came out a week to the day after I bought my truck. Took it to the dealer they inspected and found no leaks. Sure I still look under my truck every couple days to see if anything has developed. It's not really a failed part just a manufacturing issue more than anything. They ensured my diff was tightened up and I'm confident I'll be good.

problem is they overtorqued from what's been said. By doing so they completely crushed the gasket.

I've got a few friends that are plumbers and its the same thing, they've told me numerous times, not tight enough can leak but too tight can leak as well because you destroy the seal.

So toyota just retorquing bolts sounds like a pretty stupid way to 'fix' this issue.
At least based on what I've heard about what's causing this recall.

But the vast majority of leakers out there are no risk to the public so it's ok to wait until we get the notices out sometime in June.

In the meantime, since you were responsible and brought your truck in early, we'll go ahead and fuck you.

I've got a 2017 SR5 that is affected, according to the website where I checked my VIN. I don't see any leaking and I have not received a letter yet.

Well let them check it once they have parts and don't confiscate your wheels if you aren't seeing anything leaking. The letters aren't supposed to go out until June, they have to kill the trees to print the notifications on first.(sarcasm) Though the notifications aren't supposed to go out until then though.

I think you'll be just fine waiting till June or when you get your letter to take it in.
