A back step for when I get older, Carhartt seatcovers, 4Runner wheels, Topper, and "tats all folks"! --for now!!
I don't think the Rabbit diesels were called "TDI's" I owned a 1981 yellow 4dr -- and if the "T" in TDI stands for "turbo" -- It was for sure not.
Again I am relatively sure they were not called "TDI". The thing would almost shake you out of the carseat on frigid mornings --but it did get 40- 50mpg HWY

we have gotten 30+ (at 65-70mph) in the summer, of course. The car handles wonderfully -- I can't wait till my new Tacoma 4x4 comes in, as I hope to have fun comparing the two on snow. I think that the OB will outdo the Tacoma in some situations!
This weekend all we are getting is ICE-- car is stuffed in my packed garage and I am cruising the "net"

Offroading a Subaru is a great way to need a few k worth of AWD system repairs at 100k. They are a great car but not built for that level of punishment.

I mostly agree with you , but may be as surprised as I was-- over on "subaruoutback.org" there is a guy that goes by "grantwilson" that has taken a brand new 15 Outback and converted the heck out of it --you would not believe what he does with his outback" -plus he has a ball doing what he does! He also designs add-ons for vendors to sell to other Subaru owners.

I've seen some pretty crazy youtube videos. It's not a question at all of ability. You'd be surprised what even a Cherokee can do with stock tires. The problem with using a Subaru to wheel though is that the wear components in the system that make power transfer so smooth don't like being slammed on and off when wheeling on loose material or any time a where breaks loose. That accelerates wear and before you know it you're replacing 2k worth of parts years before you normally have too.

I'll hope to keep mine to 150k but I'm worried we might have flying tacomas by then!

I traded out my 2006 Honda Pilot to get my Taco. The Pilot had 201k miles and ran smooth as silk. No telling how much longer it could've gone. I was the 2nd owner, kept it 7 years, and the only things I ever did to it outside of routine oil changes, tires and brakes, was replace the serpentine belt and the air compressor. She was paid for and I would've been smarter to hold onto her another couple of years, but I caught the itch and here I am. Can't say I'll do the same with my Taco. Planning to sell or trade in 2 years, hopefully for a new Taco.

Last pic before I said goodbye. Best vehicle I ever owned.

Yup. My 98 Jeep Cherokee has 225k on it. Everything still works. Rear main leaks a little oil and that's it.
