For long bed, the distance between the two top bars is 51". For short bed, it is 39".

@ItsHud: What happened to the Yakima bars when you say they didn't survive the first outing?

Where did you get the replacement bars? And, can you say a little more about how you drilled the Yakima towers?

Also whats the thickness of the cross bars? from the pictures they look pretty big. and my mounting brackets for the tent are about 1 inch thick.
Here is the tech spec sheet for my skycamp. The cross bars dont really look like you can mount brackets to them?

here is also the website of the tent I got. Its pretty long so i need it to clear the top roof antenna. So far KB is the only one that will suit my needs, it just doesnt look like it has the right crossbars i need. what do you guys think?

Our crossbar is 3.5" wide x 1.5" high, so you would need their "extra wide bracket". I wouldn't worry about the height, because longer bolts will take care of that.

I have the same tonneau as you two guys and considered going with the identical setup. My biggest worry was lateral/side-to-side forces (especially when off-roading) generated by the weight of the tent, and what effect they would have on the tracks. My gut feeling is that the tracks won't last too long. Have you guys considered this, or have experienced any issues?

(I'm currently having new bedside-caps fabricated that will have welded-in feet to mount my FrontRunner rack above the tonneau, which will then hold the RTT.)

On rough washboards and light wheeling, that particular style bar has a tendency to slide out of the mounts/towers. We needed stop every 10mins and readjust so that we wouldn't lose the rtt.
The stainless bar stock is 1"x2", 1/8" thick. I can stand on them and they don't flex. As far as the Yakima towers, I removed the internal parts and ran a 3/8"x3" bolt through. Worked great!

Thank you, ItsHud. Where did you buy the new bars. The concerns you mentioned about light wheeling is the one thing worrying me. Going to Colorado and don't really plan to hit the trails hard, but still wondering if it will hold. Bobby at Cascadia tents told me the setup I have would be just fine with lateral stress.

@0210: I would love to get a system that did not tie into the Yakima rail system but instead slipped under the TruckCoversUSA tonneau and tied into the rail system in the truck bed. When do you expect to get your custom-fabricated bedside caps? Do you have a rough drawing or pic of your expected setup? I don't quite understand based on the explanation.

@KBVoodo: would any of your mounts slip under the TruckCovers tonneau?

This is how our Hi Rise Crossbars attach.

This is how our bed rack tonneau cover brackets attach.

I am hoping that the rack will be ready for a test-fit (ie. pre-powercoat) in the next week or two. No drawings, unfortunately.

I'll try to explain it a bit better:
    1. Imagine metal bedcaps that sit on top of the plastic ones and bend down (inwards, to the bed) to secure to the stock rail system. Essentially an L-shape sitting flush on top of the plastic bed caps.
    2. The TruckCovers USA tonneau will sit on top of these caps, just like the original installation. (The rail-attachment holes in the tonneau will be slotted vertically to account for the slightly raised height of the new bedcaps.)
    3. The outermost edge of the new bedcaps (the 1-2" that is not covered by to tonneau) will have steel tubing welded to it, which will protrude up and in, towards the inside of the bed. Picture it at a roughly 45-degree angle. This tubing will have a piece of flat bar welded on top, which will act as the attachment point for my Front Runner rack.

I bought the bar stock from Industrial Metal Supply. They will cut to the lengths that you need. Or you can do it yourself. I found the end caps and hanger bolt anchors on Amazon. Very happy with the set up. The Yakima tracks are versatile and handle the load well. My problem was the lateral stability. I hope this helps...

Is there something that goes inside the rail that the bolts screw into that secure the bracket to rail? I'll be asking iKamper to send me the wide brackets so should be ok. My last concern still is if the tent will clear the antenna on the roof. You were saying that with the tonneau bracket it makes it flush with the roof. I think the antenna is about 2 inches tall? I guess if the tent hits it, i'll have to have it hang over the rear of the truck which id rather not do but no choice.

@ItsHurd: Thank you for the info

@0210: I definitely would be interested in seeing pics as you install and the final product once installed!!!

@KB Voodoo: TruckCoversUSA sells something similar that goes under their tonneau rail. Their rack is way too tall. Would your rail system, based on what you see on the TruckCovers site, fit as well as the TruckCovers rail system? One last question: How tall are those towers on yours?

I'll post photos when I have them.

I think you can make KB Voodoo's cross-bar mounts work, but it would require cutting one of two things:
    1. Make cut-outs in the tonneau's aluminum sides to let the mounts slide under. Or,
    2. Make cut-outs in the plastic bed-caps to let the mounts sit lower and slide under the tonneau.

    (Possibly even cuts to both.)

Without cutouts the aluminum sides will "hang" on the mounts and not seal at all.

I'm not familiar with TruckCovers at all, but our Hi Rise Crossbars are 6" tall.

Since the tent is going to be using the front and rear crossbars (not the vertical adjustable bars) to mount (3inches wide) I noticed that its not solid on the bottom When mounting will the driving movement bend the side portions of the cross bars or cause any stress on the tent mounting brackets? I thought they were solid all the way around. Didn't know the bottom part was open.

It will be just fine. We have hundreds of these in use with RTT's.

I need to carry two kayaks on top of a rack like this. What would you suggest mounting them with? Would I be able to attached a Yakima or Thule system to this?
