I am not being a wise ass but the way you describe it is exactly the way i describe driving in ECT mode. can you explain how it is different than ECT mode?

LOL....if this works like the US government, the OP will Lobby Toyota to quit making TCU improvements so that he has a guaranteed market

Seriously though, if this makes everyone happy, Toyota should be embarrassed that an individual...with no support or access to the TCU source code....was able to fix the drivability that they couldn't/wouldn't.

No, they really shouldn't. Toyota's goal was fuel economy, and they reached that goal. You, me, and everyone in this thread have a different goal, and we're attempting to reach that goal via different means.

I get what you are saying, but...

What happens if 3 months down the road, it turns out that fuel economy was not affected for the users of this product? Just like I am getting the same fuel econ with my manual that the majority are getting on fuelly with the Auto. The TCU programming might improve fuel econ for the EPA drive cycle, but real world is different.

When you're dealing with EPA, real world doesn't matter. First and foremost, Toyota needs to satisfy the EPA. If that fails, the real world will never see their product. It's more profitable to put out the Tacoma we know, than not to put out one at all.

I disagreed! 16-19 mpg average is what called " fuel economy"?

I'm pretty sure that while opening up more power, the ECT still has the same shift points. And will go into a higher gear when you may not want it too.
