Brought my 2016 Tacoma in to the dealer for routine 10,000 mile/1 year service and had to leave with a rental. They said my vehicle could not be released to me due to the recall and that they did not know when the problem would be addressed since Toyota has not fashioned a repair yet. They accompanied me to a back lot to retrieve my personal belongings from the truck and it was all locked up. They gave me a free SUV rental for the duration but that is not a substitute for a truck. Just want anybody who needs their truck to know they might want to postpone service until this is figured out.

I can see the dealer strongly advising you not to drive until recall is addressed, but refusing to release your property? Don't know where the OP is located, but in my state we'd call that a felony theft.

I agree 100%, they have no legal footing to impound your vehicle against your will, unless its a Federally mandated safety im pound then maybe, other than that its private property if you want to take your truck home there is nothing they can do to stop you, are they going to call the police on anyone who decides not to leave their truck there ,no.

Do you need to know, or care?
He's right, according to the Yaris Club (Yes, there is one, and No, I'm not a member) popular vote (all 36 of them):

    The plural of Yaris is
    • Yari 17
    • Yaris' 15
    • Yaris's 2
    • Other 2

    Welcome to TW.
