People always hold their fish so far out in front of them. You'd think they're scared to hold them

Hero shot bro. It tricks the camera into making the fish look bigger. I know we're all guilty of it.

Unless he has some damn tiny hands that thing is a beast no matter the photo tek
Also if you hold the tail closer to the camera than the head it adds some size lol

Personally, I find Chum to be better fighter then Pacific Kings and Cohos. But maybe it is just me. Man, they are angry.. Ever seen a trout tossed up in the air by a chum? :)

And they have the teeth to back it up lol
Definitely my favorite fish to smoke besides maybe bluefish
They sell chum fillets at our Walmart but they call them "wild caught pacific salmon" or "keta" lol

Yep. Keta is a scientific name for Chum. It actually comes from Russian language - Keta (Chum), Kizuch (Coho), Nerka (Sockeye), tshawytscha (Spring or King or Chinook - depends on where you are), Gorbuscha (for Pinks). These all are scientific names for Pacific Salmon species which came from Russian region of Kamchatka.

Anyone here a certified casting instructor with FFI? By the way, I'll be in Bryson City for Memorial Day weekend so I'll be fishing Deep Creek, the Oconaluftee, and probably some of the Fontana tributaries over a few days :bananadance:

There are very few good salmon in a fresh water anyway, they change so fast.. I personally do not eat any of it at all.

Oh, you'll be for some good fishing. Message me closer to go time and I can give you more info if you want. Was out at Fontana yesterday evening fishing ( not fly fishing). Even the Nantahala River where everyone rafts is good. And IIRC you can fish it at night for it being classified as a spillway and not a river.

Not much happening here - the weather is like a yo-yo, most of the streams are closed and lakes in the interior are mostly still cold.
