I want to leave my electronic key with my truck at the put-in, but...

I experimented last week as well before I found the answer in tips and tricks. Thing is there was nowhere to store a spare fob in the cab of the truck where the truck wouldn't start. And I'd like to keep an emergency spare in the truck out of the weather. So this tip along with zip tying a door key under the truck somewhere well hidden does solve that problem.

I don't have one of these but in the past I have just used 2 quality brand ziplock sandwich bags and have never had a problem. But for the price, something like the item shown in the link would be a good option. Just tie it to your swim trunks.

Does your truck have a key hole on the door? If so, here's my solution. I'd get a full sized key cut that you can use to unlock the doors, and nothing else. You could keep this strapped to you while you're doing your activity, or hide it somewhere on the truck. Then put your smart key fob in a faraday bad (or wrap it in aluminum foil) so the truck has no idea the key is near. My guess is that it won't let you lock the key inside the truck (most smart keys won't). Anyway's, that'd be my solution.

yep, they're pretty easy to pick. doesn't take long to find videos on youtube on how to pick them as well.

you have to be within 5-6ft of the truck for the door to unlock by grabbing the drivers door handle, if the key is in the truck the door will not lock

 

Did your Dad also swerve to run over groundhogs that were on, or close to the road.... Mine did and he only "ditched" the car once, but got quite a few "Hogs". I think times have changed a little..... ( I used to take a rifle on the High School Bus, so we could shoot groundhogs on the way home)...! We was in the country and the "bus" was a Chevy Suburban (bench seats along the sides) and there was only 6 guys and the driver...... we called it the Stage Coach..!

I lock my electronic key in my bed (under a tonneau and hidden) and then hide my key to the tonneau on the outside of the truck in a special spot. This gives me double security - you can't open the truck with the key if you were to find it, only the tonneau, and if you do get into the tonneau you'd have to rip the thing apart through everything I have stuffed in there to find the key to open the truck...

 

No we didn't have too many ground hogs but we did do the thing where we accidentally hit a deer once and took it home for the freezer.

 

A buddy told me his dad has a new car and didn't realize until he tried to restart the car at the gas station that the car would sense the fob from the driveway while the fob was still in the house.

"Honey, can you bring my car key to me at the gas station?"

u can change a perameter in your trucks setting to make it so the key has to be next to the door to open it. ex if you have the key in the bed close to the tailgate it shouldnt open the truck
