What are the camping regulations in Canadia? Are there public (government owned) lands where you can camp or do you have to be in designated campgrounds?

Most of the wild land is "crown land" on which you can camp pretty much anywhere. Similar to BLM land in the US.

Some places have wild campsites that are free, other places have "recreational sites" that may charge a small fee, but most places outside of large cities are free. And if there are costs, they are a hell of a lot cheaper than US. I've paid as much as $40USD for a patch of dirt in Colorado. In BC you're not going to find a campsite that charges more than $15CAD (like $10USD).

I usually go for wild spots as far from civilization as possible.

Badass, thanks for the info. I like the sound of the "wild spots." Another noob question: can I drive across the border with my dog and passport no problem? Anything I need to know traveling with a dog?

I've crossed with my dog probably 15-20 times. A single time the border guard (coming into the US) asked for proof of rabies vaccine and said that some other authorities are on their ass about it, so you have to have it with you. He still let me in, and no one has ever mentioned it again. Since then I keep a copy of the dog's rabies vaccine paperwork in the truck - that's all you need.

Other than that, a passport and you're good to go. If they ever need to pull you in for a secondary inspection or what not, both sides of the border have crates into which you can put your pooch while they do whatever they need to do. Crossing into the US, the crates are wire-style. Crossing into Canada, the crates are full-on playpens.

Badass - thanks man! I plan on spending some time in BC mountain biking and camping, so even if we can't convince these other fuckheads to meet up there for the Tacobrew event, I'll let you know when I'm inbound.

For sure. Give me a bit of heads up and I should be able to take a few days off for some proper exploration.

    Can't do Memorial Day weekend.

I don't have much free time until end of July or so, now that I think on it.

    Sub'd for trip report.

I'm def down for meet ups and/or camping. One of the main reasons to get the taco was to do more weekend trips!
