    1. I recently installed the Avid bolt-on rails on my 2016 Tacoma access cab ; I am experiencing extra road noise in cab at higher speeds; Toyota won't make any corrections until I remove them ; wondering if it's being caused by rails anybody else noticing this ? Thanks John

The rails may be screwing with the wind and deflecting it. Never seen that before though.

Not sure if you've had a Tacoma before but there isn't much sound deadening in them.

Check if the cab pinch weld is rubbing on the slider legs anyehere, or too close. I think you want a good 1/4 inch between the pinch weld snd slider legs, and in some cases you might need to grind the pinch weld a bit.

Question: Was this sound happening before you installed the Avid bars, or did it start after you installed them? If you take your bars off is the sound still there?

Hi ; yes they are sliders ; rock rails and other names for same thing ; I guess I'll be forced to remove them , to get help from dealer , but the drivers side is louder , being the doors used most often , causing more wear and tear , and allowing more noise infiltration. Could some of the noise be coming in from rear vents behind jump seats ? Thanks for input John

My guess would be a poor door seal.

I had a 2015 Limited Taco and there were no noise issues in the cab at all. When I got my new 16 Limited, the rear doors sounded cheap when you closed them and passengers sitting in the rear complained how noisy it was. This would be at speeds of 40 - 60 mph. So much so, they couldn't hear the conversation taking place up front. I went to my local dealer and they tested the truck out. They even went and drove a new 16 Limited from the lot and came up with the same conclusion! Toyota has an issue with their 16 Tacoma's cab noise. The fix was, there is no fix, at least not for now. They did submit, I forget what their terminology was, but essentially it lets Toyota Canada know of the issue. The dealer said the only way it gets fixed is that enough people need to complain about it through their dealers, only then will Toyota look at a fix.

Could always just do a little dynamat. I did that when installing my speakers in the doors and have much less road noise as well as a lot less distortion in my speakers. Did a foam baffle behind each door speaker, three strips of dynamat directly on the sheet metal of the door, small strips around the inside of the door frame AND the outside of the door frame, cover up the small to medium sized holes with dynamat strips, then put in some large foam pieces in each door to soak up any noise thats left. Takes your sound quality as far as clarity of high notes and amount of mid range to the next level as a nice bonus, but definitely will help with in cab noise. Another easy fix is to do black silicone gasket sealer between the cab and the rubber weather stripping to keep it from whistling. The way it is secured from the factory is by rubber nipples every 2-3 inches, leaving tons of play for wind noise to get in around the strips.

Also if you haven't done undercoating yet, 3M rubberized professional undercoat is VERY easy to apply, can be applied thick and it will dry flat, and drys quickly (about 20 mins to touch, a day before its fully cured). It also significantly helps with cab noises, specifically deadening some of the exhaust that otherwise comes straight through the cab structure. Its a little pricey at like 11$ a can, and you need at least 5 but I did 7 cans with one for touch ups in store and that covered the truck with 2 good coats and hasn't peeled or anything since. It also is a nice black color with a matte finish when it dries and looks dopeIMG_20170413_170840.jpg

I find that this is where most of the noise in my truck comes from. The next time you run your A/C, switch it to recirculate and see if you notice a difference in the noise.
