    going to be fun!
So, I went back to the dealer this weekend after they looked at this issue in Feb and was told it was normal....

I asked the service manager what the purpose of a gasket was? He looks at me with this blank stare what did he just ask me.So I asked again what is the purpose of a gasket? So i then said gaskets work as seals to maintain pressure or leaks of fluids from things with fluids in them correct? So if fluid is getting past a gasket designed to keep fluids in seeping or otherwise it's faulty right if its getting past said gasket? I was then told your Truck is not on the recall list you have no issue.

Had it in today (had to reschedule) and they just cleaned it up and re-torqued. Claimed that some amount of seep/weep is normal...

My seep / weep is way smaller than that and it was "quarantined" on 5/1 because it is on the list. Makes no damn sense.

Basically the same response I got when I called Toyota to get a case number set up to get my truck back on the recall list. The "technician" I spoke with could not confirm that the pictures I sent them showed a leak. I asked if fluid was supposed to be on the outside of the differential and she stuttered while trying to respond. I keep thinking back to the Honda Pilot forum (the wife's car) I'm on where someone said that using a quart of oil in 1000 miles was normal... really?

Any recently design/built vehicle should not leak any fluids... I don't care what make/model you have, it shouldn't leak fluids. Period.

Day 11 here and dealer is lost thanks to corporate. Called Toyota today....nothing but empty empathy.. No parts yet was their response. I asked if they quit building 'em yet....nope. Can I still buy a new one....yep. Trying to take care of current owners? You know the answer. :annoyed:

Wait, you're in Victoria... Victoria, TX. Just call them up and tell them you're coming to pick it up. You know they can't keep it from you right?.... It's your property. I would think a Texas dealership, especially a small town (relatively) dealer, would know better. Seriously, just go get it.

I brought my 2016 TRD OR in for 25k service last week and showed them my rear diff is leaking in 4 different spots. I had emptied my truck out and was fully prepared to try to persuade them to get me a 4runner loaner (but also ready to go hit some sweet jumps in a Yaris if it came to that). There happened to be a corporate level Toyota rep at my dealer that day to go over the details of the recall, which my truck is not included in. The decision was made to re-torque the bolts and send me on my way. They said a fix should be available mid-June and that I'm the first truck they've seen with the issue. Also said that although I'm not on the recall list, they'd be happy to fix mine when they get the parts in. Bob Howard Toyota in Edmond, OK. Their service dept has been pretty good to me. Brought my truck in for first service at 5k, mentioned squeaky springs and they ordered entire new spring packs no questions asked.

Mine had a spot or 2 where it seeped/weeped at one time. Took mine in yesterday and they torqued the bolts and sent me on my way. Was at the dealership about an hour.

Hate to thread jack, but I feel like there already 20 threads on this subject and I don't want to start another. my co worker had the same thing happen to his truck. (2016 4x4 sr5 access cab v6 auto). They took his truck and gave him a car. They told him they don't know how long they would take to fix it.

I did the vin look up and my truck (2016 trdor4x4, dclb, at, v6) comes up clean. But I ran up to my truck on my break and found that it was slightly weeping oil where the diff meets the axel housing. IMG_2943.jpgIMG_2942.jpg It's such a small amount and I just turned 36,000 miles.

Do you guys think Toyota would take my truck over this? I use my truck every day for work and would not be able to use car. Plus it's not on the vin number check up on toyotas website.

Beta300rr Mine looks exactly like this and they just retorqued mine. They shouldn't take your truck hostage. If they do, and you legitamately need a truck for work, they should hook you up. If not, you can throw a fit and just get your truck back. You aren't part of the recall though so they shouldn't give you too much trouble.

Hey all. I just ordered a Tacoma yesterday. Being built in Baja Mexico. What's he deal with new trucks???? Should I cancel my truck? Have they fixed this problem for new builds? All the sudden I'm very worried.

Not sure what to tell you. A lot of people are having issues with their third gens. Transmission, leaky axel, poor mpg. Mines been good so far. 36,000 miles except for a very very slight oil leak on the rear end. See pics above. Although If I had to do it again i would get a Manual gearbox.

Some people are having issues. Some more than others. Some people aren't having any issues. So far, the diff recall is this most severe widespread issue acknowledged by Toyota. However, there are many, many complaints about the way the AT shifts. The AT is probably the most complained about thing here on TW.

Take the truck for a thorough test drive in varying conditions to determine if the transmission is something you are ok with.

I'm trading in for my 20 year old 1st Gen manual transmission. I don't even know what an automatic feels like!

Yes, cancel your truck and buy something else.

First mistake you made was letting TW suddenly make you worry about a truck you don't even have. Imagine how much worry you're going to have when you read something here and convince yourself it's happened to you before any physical evidence is apparent while you wait for it to get here.

    Save yourself now.

You make a solid argument, Sir. I assume Toyota has fixed the problem for trucks coming off the line right now. Still good to inquire. I do regret joining this insane asylum though!!!

Just brought mine in for the 5,000 service. Fortunately no leaks and it wasn't on the recall list (yet). Got to find a piece of wood to knock on. Just got off a 2,700 mile road trip. MPG range 17-20 averaging 18.3 mpg with a Yakama rack loaded with 60 pounds of fiberglass (surfboards). If I kept it at 62 miles per hour I got the upper range. But, 70 mph, 17.8 mpg. Those racks and surfboards really hit me MPG wise.
