Is there really a 2018 Tacoma?

Do it. I agree, though safety features serve a purpose, its one more thing to break/replace/fix that I really don't need.

 

They did a 2nd Gen. refresh for 2012. Truck got better looking IMO, but they also added an execrable air injection system to reduce cold start emissions. These systems have expensive problems, one of which the manufacturer took a step towards solving for the 2013 model year by making a change to the ECU programming, but the fix was never offered to the 2012 guys. And Toyota hasn't done another thing about it.

TLDR: Sometimes, change can introduce new problems.

 

Only regret I have with my 17 OR is not getting the 6MT. I test drove one but talked myself out of it for some reason.

 

True. Introducing new features could create more problems id like to see them fix the known issues and criticisms

 

Toyota doesn't need to "fix" the Tacoma. People buy them, and lots of them, even with their current problems.

 

Appreciate your opinion but strongly disagree. I would point to reviews by Car and Driver, consumer reports, JD Power as well as consumer review sites such as Carcomplaints.com. Toyota has some work to do on this gen. So far it has the worst reception of any previous generation.

 

I have a family member driving a 2017 rav4 with that stupid safety sense stuff. They can turn off everything except the accident avoidance. They hate that system, here's why. They were cruising down the interstate on the way to work and some peabrain darting in and out of traffic cuts in close, but not enough for them to hit their brakes. Well, the car decides it's too close and slams on the brakes they nearly had a three car pileup and could not override the system. Keep in mind, my family member is a very conscientious driver, who drives for a living. Needless to say they were pissed. Thankfully the people behind them slowed down in time, or it could have been a disaster. So no, I won't be buying a car with that crap, I could live with it if I had the option to turn it off, but since you can't, nope.

 

And here we are two years later and the truck has the same issues that have yet to be fixed. If Toyota wanted to put some effort into it, they would have already. Something as simple as making sure the fluids come from the factory at the proper levels and they don't even get that right.

 

I hope it doesn't come standard.

30k on a 2016 trd or dcsb and loving it and I drove a friends 1st gen . I also owned a 13 4x4 sr5 dcsb .. but then again you can peek out of your blinds and wait till the next year models roll out. No rear end problems .The hood does flutter a bit on the freeway but It's a truck. I compare it to looking at a model and complaining she's too skinny.

I can see why people want to be in full control, but as you said about the Rav almost causing a pile up, the people behind should have given themselves enough car lengths to react.

The adaptive cruise feature offered on Corollas is neat too, it adjusts your cruise speed when approaching slower moving vehicles.
