All new model rollouts from any manufacturer is a beta test as they can't find EVERYTHING on the proving ground or lab. Sometimes it takes a larger population over time to determine what, if any bugs are present that need to be addressed at the factory (redesign) or in the field (recall / TSB/ update).

Also happened in 95 with the 1st gen, 2005 with the 2nd gen too, not unique to the 3rd gen Tacoma.

    Brand new so nothing yet.
I have and off-road. Love it. Don't listen to wine bags. Some people just hate everything they see. These things are like legos anyway. Something you don't like or it fails replace it with something cooler and stronger

That is exactly what I did..No sense in complaining, take action. The recall was the last straw for me. I wanted the 4.0 back so I traded with $750 for a 16 4Runner Premium.

I still like the Tacoma but the howls, whirring rear end and especially the lack of Toyota response early on tipped the scales against my Tacoma, I duct taped the LCAs and had some other issues but the recall with no clear solution was the last straw. My Wifes 17 CRV EXL Nav was leased last week, They had the 4Runner on the lot for a month. So I thought the Tacoma would be an easier sell. The dealer agreed and we made the swap. I could not be happier with the 4Runner. The only thing I really miss is the PB Start.

I really hope Toyota resolves the issues, I wish I could have turned a blind eye toward the Tacoma and 'live with it" but the dealer told me they are holding some trucks until a solution is found. That is some crazy stuff. The Honda dealer I traded with sent my Tacoma to Toyota for the recall. They still don't have it back. Anything I put in the bed of the Tacoma can fit in the 4Runner, I never carried anything that was higher than the bed.

The new MX5 has been blowing second gear on new cars. So I bought the Fiat 124, What a great ride to replace my motorcycling days. I expected issues with it but it has been great....so far.

You got a great truck. It's shockingly safe. I think you'll really enjoy it.

I've had a 2002 Tacoma for 14 years with 310,000 miles and just got a 2017 TRD 4x4. I just discovered this site today.

You didn't make a mistake. They are good vehicles, and most folks have no issues. Enjoy it, press your dealer for any issues that might pop up. Toyota is a good brand.

I saw this article recently, not long after finding out my Truck was on the recall list (leaky rear axle) and, like the OP, I to was basically wondering "WTF"!!! I am starting to wonder if I should have waited for the Ranger next year (I traded in a 1997 Ranger to get my truck)!

I wouldn't put too much credence in an article from "She budgets" regarding the merits of a truck but you're entitled to your own opinion.

For all these people talking about waiting on the release of the new ranger and expecting it to better than the Tacoma, how come no talk about 1st year bugs? Have you put that much stock in Ford?

Consumer reports was also less than kind, to say the least! Regarding the Ranger, it's not really a 1st year model, they are, basically, bringing the truck they already sell in Europe to the US (adapted to US specs, of course. Might even be a diesel, we'll see. I like my Tacoma, btw, just not happy that I have to answer questions from my wife like "did you really research that truck?" when she reads negative stuff about it.

The Tacoma proves automakers need to build their plants in areas that have a skilled and experienced labor force.Japan to Fremont CA. to San Antonio TX. to Tijuana MEX.

Nothing but downhill and it shows..
