Used car prices in general are falling due to there being a glut of low mileage "lease" vehicles being turned in, and it seems from some selling prices I have seen that even Tacoma prices are heading lower. Your nice '07 was probably "wholesaled" from a dealer trade due to its potential for being strong competition to selling new trucks--sounds like a good catch!

When I bought my '09 ("certified pre-owned" with 135k, also one-owner) from a Toyota dealer last October they told me point blank that had it been a year older or over 150k miles they would have wholesaled it...

@cliffyk yes you are probably right , about the wholesale of these trucks . A lot of people lease them and when the lease runs out they just get a new vehicle so they don't have to worry about anything (maintenance, break downs, etc )

That's a damn good deal, almost $2k lower than what I bought mine for. The dealer was originally asking 16,995 for mine, then reduced it to 15,995. I got them down to 15,500 and they wouldn't budge any further.

A common belief is that dealers only "wholesale" trade-ins that are crappy--which end up at buy-here-pay-here lots--and while that is mostly true they also unload those that might/will interfere with the sale of new (or higher profit used) vehicles. Their #1 objective is to make money, and most new car dealerships are good at it--when was the last time your heard of one filing for bankruptcy?. They make the most money on new cars, typically paying 70 to 75% of MSRP plus "floorplan" interest (I.e. the faster they move it the lower their actual cost). That's a pretty good margin, almost rivaling mall jewelry stores selling mass produced crap as "fine jewelry"...

The resale value is crazy here in canada. Before I bought my taco in 2015, I looked at used trucks, even for an 09 with 100,000km it was still 22,000! Why pay that when for a bit more I can have new and have it last 10-15 years. I was fortunate to have bought my truck when our dollar was higher, Got my 2015 SR5 2.7 for about 29,000 hehehe. Now new here they are 34/35,000 for my truck

I plan on my '09 purchased last October lasting me at least another 10 years--however being retired in Florida I ride my Silver Wing 600 scoot' 5500 miles a year, and will likely drive the truck (when it's raining or something needs to be bought/moved) no more than 4500 miles...

Same here, I have a Kymco Xciting scoot that I ride to work as long as the weather allows. My truck has 99k on it now, it would probably take almost a decade for me to get to 150k.

When I bought my '15 I was offered $5,000, by a neighbor, for my '99 SR5 Pre with 190k. Almost took him up on it but changed my mind. I love that damned truck. Too many good times. In 5 years, it'll still bring $5k if I reconsider.

Might be a different climate for truck sales out there. It's ridiculous here.

Is that the 500 cc model--How do you like it?

I had a 400 cc Burgman for years and when the "more power bug" hit early last year was not interested in the overly complex Burgman 650. Had i not found a low mileage (9100) Silver Wing the Kymco 500 would have been next in line...

It's a 2009 with the 250cc, and I love it. It suits my needs just fine, it cruises 65mph with no problem and is great around town. I've been tempted to sell it and buy the 500, but honestly mine is heavy enough. I'm kind of a smaller framed guy, so anything heavier might be too much for me to handle.

Actually, what I'd love to have is a Honda NC700 with the DCT, or maybe a CTX700, but they are a pretty rare find around here.

I would miss the 50+ litres of underseat storage, and low seat height of the Silver Wing--which at 1" higher than my Burgman 400 is still 3" lower than the NC700...

Depreciation is the most expensive part of vehicle ownership. Three years ago when I bought my Silverado I came really close to buying a Tacoma but the Silverado was the exact same price and was bigger, hauled more etc. it was a great truck but when it was time to trade it in 3 years later with 175k on the clock the Tacoma would have been worth $5k more.

It's an Auto, and I am super stoked with the truck -- my first Taco! I talked to the dealer quite a bit before putting down the deposit, but it was hard to go wrong with such low mileage, clean carfax, the truck back at the original dealer, it is CPO, has balance or original warranty, plus the extended 100k Toyota warranty, and all the service records from the (one) original owner - literally and older gentleman who bought the truck to use in retirement, but health issues prevented him from using it hence he traded back in to the dealer. Once if a lifetime deal, I am sure. The dealer even had someone pick me up at the airport, which was great. BTW, I purchased this at Burien Toyota -- highly recommended.
