Entune or Siri or whoever won't read my text messages out loud. I get the new message alert but the "Read" button is grayed out and I can only click Ignore. Happens while truck is moving and phone is screen off in my pocket. Also happens while parked with the phone in my pocket. Any ideas anyone?

    Thanks,

Yes, Push the pickup phone button on the left hand side of the steering wheel (top button is pickup call button), Siri eyes free will load onto the nav screen, once it beeps ask siri to read the text. Works great!!! I have the same truck as you with JBL just in Barcelona!!

So I take it the Entune read your text feature doesn't work for anyone then?

It's been finicky for me too. Make sure "Show notifications" is enabled in your iPhone Bluetooth settings (hit the little i beside Toyota under my devices). If that doesn't work try deleting the device and resetting personal data from Entune and try setting it up again.

If you have contacts saved to the entune system it will not read text. Try deleting your contacts from the radio and try it. Idk why but that's the way it works. I don't get why they haven't been able to figure this out through the years.

Newb here and I have had issues as well (when all else fails, reboot your phone). My only issue I'm experiencing now is the reply function. With the set replies for texts. Any reason why those aren't available?

Mine read texts a single time - on the way home from the dealership right after purchase. Never again since.

"Show notifications" has always been enabled.

Mine will only read them when I'm sitting still. What is the point of that?

If you have an iphone, that feature is not compatible with iOS.

I get the same finicky, here and there it works....(reading texts only, sending not possible without Siri) I've noticed if I am signed into the Entune App on my phone it works as expected.(PITA because entune auto logs you off) Although sometimes I have to select the messages icon and go through the setup for messaging prompts.

iPhones have a few quirks when working with your Tacoma. Here is my workaround:

Like noted a few times you have to set your phone to show notifications. The next part is annoying but it works. I get in truck start it and then wait for my phone to be recognized and show connected on the home screen. I DO HAVE FAVORITES / CONTACTS entered and showing on my home screen. It is a feature I use a lot so I wasn't willing to lose it so I keep it enabled. It will not show / read texts when set up like this. So now the truck is running I unlock my phone and click AIRPLANE MODE on and wait for the connection to drop. I then turn off airplane mode and it will read texts to me now. You can also turn Bluetooth off and on for this to work and I have heard you can break the connection from your head unit as well to the same result. Here is the annoying part I mentioned. YOU HAVE TO DO IT EVERY TIME YOU START THE TRUCK.

I am not a big distraction kind of person and put driving first. Yes I do like the hands free operations for phone but I won't always talk if I don't have the ability to focus on the road due to traffic or other factors. So if I don't get a text or have to pull over to read it I am not that annoyed. I basically do the routine I have noted daily on any trip I know I am waiting for an important text or if I am traveling any distance. I wish I could do something to make this a one time routine but since that isn't a possibility at the moment I use this workaround for when I do need texts.

If my wife and kids hadn't drank the Apple cool aid I would get rid of my iPhone in a heartbeat. This crap and I can't use the cordless charging in the truck too

^^ This is what will make an iPhone work.

1- Delete any contacts you have saved to you entune screen.
2- Make sure notifications are enabled on your phone.
3- Delete you bluetooth connection to the Tacoma
4- Restart you phone and then restore the bluetooth connection.

Worked for me and I have had zero issues with entune reading iPhone texts while driving ever since. Downside is that you can't program contacts on the entune home screen :/
