I just put on a Toytec 3" lift on my 02 Taco TRD 4X4 Ext Cab. The people who put it on, didn't put the leaf springs in the rear. I seem to be getting binding on the universal joint, especially backing up. Can anyone help me on this problem? I talked to a Toyota Dealer and they don't think they can help me.

If you lifted the front and not the rear, it shouldn't affect the rear drive shaft.

There is a big bar on the rear leaf springs, but I don't know if it came with the toyota or someone added it on...

This straight bar is about inch thick and tapered on each end and it's about 2 - 3 ' long. It's sitting on the bottom of the leaf springs.

That would be an AAL. That is part of the rear lift.

I think the UV joints are binding and it doesn't roll very good at all and it seems like the hand brake is on, especially when I have it reverse.

I'd jack the rear up by the bumper and let the rear drop out fully and spin the tires and see what happens. u-joints shouldn't be binding at 3" of lift.

Maybe they were in marginal shape to begin with and are acting up now that the drive angle has changed?

Replacing the U-Joints is cheap especially if you do it yourself.

Could also just be too high of an angle. If new U-Joints don't solve the problem, the next thing to try will be getting a CV drive shaft and angling up your rear diff with shims.

I went to Chux Trux and they said the round front motor mounts shims need to be installed. That should relieve the UV binding...... Thanks everyone, Dave
