I have no issues buying one. I just picked up last month a 2014 4x4 DBSB with 162k miles on it for 20k. a 50k mileage on are in he $29k range, figured save 9k. it had all the records of the oil changes and what not from toyota.

Bought my '05 back in September with 168K miles. The truck spent its life in NH, so it had just had the frame replaced along with the steering column, steering rack, front wheel bearings, brakes, and battery. I've added 12k miles since, and it's rolling right along.

Wow thanks everyone . I know years ago anything hit 100K people panicked . I was just concerned about maint. I know things can come up with anything but didn't want to spend thousands a year .

Thanks again everyone , enjoy hearing the stories .

I bought my 4 banger with 130k. 160k now. I daily drive it and take it to the deepest corners of the Sierra and I don't worry at all. I'm taking it to 300k. When shopping with a $14k budget I stuck to ~150k or less.

    I had an '85
The $100k panic is a left over from the 50s and early 60s when that was about the best automotive technology could muster; and from the late 60s and 70s, and a good part of the 80s, when American automakers were still putting out the same crap--that's how the Japanese took over the auto industry.

Fortunately it still holds some water with many, allowing others like myself and others here to save some real money when buying a "new-to-us" vehicle. If the '09 I bought in October had had 50k instead of 135k it would have sold, at a Toyota dealer, for $24k rather than the $18k we paid...

Good thing I searched this thread before trying to make a new one and ask.

I'm looking into buying a 2005 Toyota Tacoma 4wd manual access cab 6ft bed with 220k on it BUT with a brand new frame, leaf springs and brake lines from Toyota for $8,000. Good deal or not? I've had a 1st gen Tacoma in our family for almost 20 years and I've heard they can go 500k+. Is that true for the second gens? I never had one

This cab filter came out of my 2012 DCLB Pre Runner with only 37k miles on it. It just goes to show you that the maintenance done by the prior owner says more than the milage on the dash. Hope it helps

Depending on the miles you will put on the truck, it's probably not a bad deal. If you drive 2000 mi a month, I wouldn't have a 5 yr loan on it..

There are two kinds of Tacoma owners. One's like me who take care of their Tacoma's and one's who
run them ragged with no desire to service their trucks. You can tell real easy if a Tacoma is been abused.
    Shit
I hope to get 400,000 miles out of my 2012.

I bought my 2011 DCSB 4x4 6 months ago. One owner and service verified by Dealer. Truck looks perfect with 188,000 and I'm still happy with my decision.

These stories are unreal ! I wonder what my 2015 Tacoma double cab TRD off road is worth. 22k miles, looks like new. All maintenance records from dealer.

I bought my first Tacoma 7years ago with 36k on it. Now it has 115k, and runs great, its paid for, and now I am slowly building it up. I do as much of the maint. I feel comfortable doing myself, best truck I have ever owned. I plan to keep it as long as I can. Good luck with your search.

I'd go for it. My daily driver 07 has 346,### and kbb/nada start values over $8,500. Just got a '15 and I am thinking of asking $7,500 for the '07. These trucks last well over XXXk miles with decent maintenance.

I just sold a 2012 Hyundai Sonata with 40k miles on it to buy my 2007 Tacoma with 99k miles. Those Sonatas have been spinning rod bearings like crazy as early as 60k miles, Hyundai can't make replacement engines fast enough. They extended the warranty on the engine, but I felt like I was driving a ticking time bomb.

The two most reliable vehicles I knew of were the Camry and Tacoma. I decided I needed a truck more than a car so I went with the Tacoma. I felt safe buying a Tacoma with 100k, but I wouldn't consider anything else with those miles. Certainly no domestic brand.

One of our Field Service Techs just rolled over 300k on a 2008 SCSB. It's a 2.4, 2WD, 5 speed. No major repairs just regular maintenance and wear/tear items.

If you're going to get one i cant stress enough to check if it had any mods done like remote start or aftermarket alarm. Im dealing with a huge blow back from the previous owner doing this. Do yourself a favor and make sure there was no mod done!

I've purchased plenty of used vehicles with aftermarket systems installed. Some didn't come with remotes so I had to remove the entire system. They're all installed in the same fashion so removal isn't really that difficult if you're not scared of wires and can tell the difference between factory and aftermarket wires. It's really not that big of an issue. A really clean and neat job would be harder to replace/remove.
