More Q's fer ya: were you taught to rev match down shift, that it was acceptable to slip the clutch while stopped on an upslope, to keep the trans in gear with the clutch disengaged at a stoplight?

 

Not taught to rev match. But my dad taught me how to float gears with no clutch. Always clutch out while stopped for more than a moment.

 

Slipping the clutch to remain stationary on an uphill slope (actually I had them learn to move the truck up and back using nothing but the clutch) is the way I taught both my daughters and several of their friends how to find that sweet spot. It gave them all a great feel for the clutch and I believe that it actually saved the clutches in the long run.

 

Early on when I first learned I would use the handbrake when stopped on a steep hill.

Alright! One of my pet likes. Would I be right in assuming you can heel toe in your Tacoma? The pedal arrangement makes it impossible for me.

No need in 16 Tacoma, hill assist negates having to...was commenting on learning. '72 three in tree didn't have hand break. ''Tis the fisher pricing of techno driving these days. But I can still heel toe the taco, big feet I guess lol

 

Ditto. Still haven't been able to successfully heel toe in this truck. Use to do it all the time in my 4 cylinder cars.

 

If you hear a noise outside that sounds like someone taking your CBI rear bumper, you wouldn't shoot would you?

OK, learnt something new tonite...I assumed it was only the automatics that had the hill assist. Looking at the pedal arrangement, the only way I could realistically heel toe would be ala Ricky Rudd, heel on brake, toe on gas. But I feel I'm too old to learn a different way. Sigh...
