I love seeing you alls pets.

 

My boy has issues with beds too. We ended up getting him a giant one he can sprawl out on.

 

We have 5 cats and 4 dogs. Chocolate lab, Akita, German Shepherd/ Husky mix, and a shih-tzu. Waiting on wet okole seat covers before loading them (dogs only) up in the truck. Not sure how they are gonna fit. The husky mix is 110+ lbs and the Akita & choc. lab are about 80 each. The shih-tzu is basically a cat.

Great thread!!! Nice change of pace. Here's what I did for my guy.....

Removed my access cab seats, headrests, and center console. Custom built a flat bench out of scrap wood I had lying around. Modified an existing pet barricade to keep him out of the front. Traveled to Bed Bath and Beyond and found the plushest king size comforter I could find at a somewhat reasonable price ($50). Folded and tucked it tight all around the access cab. Used the pillow shams that came with the comforter to protect the doors. This extra step had to be done, because whenever I return to my vehicle he paws at the doors and such out of excitement. It's SUPER comfy back there for him.

 

I like the comforter idea and will give it a try. I made a platform like the one shown in post #1 of this thread. The Toyota logo is very cool but I figured my platform would always be covered.

Interesting thread...Very similar to what I did. I did gain a lot more for room for him by removing the existing seats and console though. It was also easier to get it level. I can also still get to the underneath compartments if necessary. The comforter can also be washed when needed.

This probably isn't the appropriate venue to discuss the breed. I'll just provide some brief info then direct you to some other areas on the grid that will be valuable resources.

First, like any other breed, Corgi owners need to be responsible. Most of the dogs I see with issues are overweight and don't exercise, just like their owners. Second, like many breeds money for the puppies is an issue. Pedigree counts so picking a good rescue or puppy takes patience. You might wait upwards of a year or more from a good breeder, for an appropriate puppy. Depends if you want show or pet quality, breeding rights, etc.

My last dog was a rescue. Every other dog I get is a rescue. Elvis was my last dog and he lived to be almost 20 years old. Beau is my nine month old puppy and I am hopeful he'll have a long and healthy life. He's off to a great start. He loves being outdoors with me and we walk 30-50 miles per week on a variety of trails. He loves water and is a hunter. Not all corgis love water but he has the gene. Corgis are a herding breed and his drive is extremely strong. They are VERY smart and active. They are one of the oldest breeds and have double coats for protection. My Pembroke loves the cold and doesn't need a sweater even in cold conditions. They shed twice per year.

There are two type of corgis. Pembroke and Cardigan. Cardigans are larger, have tails, and have a calmer demeanor. Pembroke's are a few pounds smaller and docking the tail is typical in the US. Pay particular attention to the breed standards and colors in the resource section below. There is no such thing as a merle Pembroke.

Feel free to strike up a private conversation and I'll answer more questions but you should really research the breed extensively before making a purchase. - started by some Cardigan experts I know. AKC Pembroke breed area - be sure and review the breed standards at the AKC site. They also have a good search tools for finding reputable breeders and puppies in your area. See their Cardigan area if you decide to go that route.

The picture I attached is my pem at a little over 7 months. He's as strong as an ox already but I work his ass and feed him like a king.

Thanks for the great info I did not mean to hack the thread. I am currently looking for a rescue Corgi for the Wife she is more active than I am and likes small dogs but not little tiny lap dogs. Thanks again.

Finding a good rescue is VERY difficult. But there are good rescue orgs in the south. Research those and fill out applications for several. You might get lucky. Good luck man.
