Rough Country 2 in Leveling Kit

The ONLY reason I have spacers on my truck is because its a company truck and it gets replaced every 2 years. Having to take off the full suspension each time is a waste of labor money for me. Spacers are easy to install and give the look I want.

In a couple years, if I move on from my company I will be purchasing a new Tacoma for myself and transferring all the stuff I have installed on the company truck and will do a full suspension setup the correct way.

I do notice with my spacers, slight bumps such as driveways while turning sometimes my ABS kicks in and I get the grinding sound from the front and in the pedals. I have a feeling this is because I am using spacers so the suspension is stressing and not able to flex normal.

 

Good to see it all worked out, It's been a couple months. Any issues with the spacers?

 

Spacers aren't nearly as evil as many would indicate. They do cause the shock to run out of travel before the suspension does....which CAN result in bending/breaking the lower part of the shock, IF the shock takes a hard hit. If you aren't into hucking giant whoops or diving over the top of sand dunes, this may not ever be an issue. I've had spacer lifts and done some serious off roading without incident.

For trucks that'll see nothing but street use, a spacer lift will do just fine provided you have decent quality shocks to begin with. Stock shocks can begin to deteriorate by the 50,000 mile mark in many cases. So if you're replacing shocks, why NOT go with a good aftermarket shock? For the record, I do NOT like using stock coils preloaded by an adjustable shock to gain lift. That will result in a stiffer ride.

That said, a GOOD adjustable shock with a longer coil to provide the lift is a BETTER option. It's still possible to reach a coil bind situation where shocks can be bent or broke even with this set up. It's best to either add spacers to the bump stop, OR, use bigger (thicker) aftermarket bumps to establish a limit to suspension travel rather than using the shock itself as the limiting point.

My choice is Bilstien 5100's set @ 0", OME coils (885X's in my case) and a quality AAL (Deavers 2" in my case). These perform quite well in any situations I've had my truck in.

 

I have the Rough Country 2" front spacer only for leveling and it gives the truck a bit of a bro lean (nose up) look. I'm okay with it for now but soon will be putting the 3" lift from Rough Country. I have an SR5 rwd so I don't off road like you would with your truck I'd imagine. The ride for me hasn't changed much really. Some would say it's stiffer/rougher ride but I stuffed 285s with some wheel spacers and I'm sure that has helped keep the stock ride. The only thing I hate now is just the look. But overall a good spacer. I'm fine with using "hockey pucks" for hwy driving and for looks. Oh and I only paid $310 w/alignment. Here's some pics of when they installed. This is also before the wheel spacers and air dam removal.

 

hey Leo, how much did those tires rub and what did you do to combat the rubbing

 

Most major auto parts stores rent/loan tools. When I put my lift on my Jeep WJ, O'Reilly's loaned me a set of strut compressors that did the job. Those springs are bigger than the Taco's coilovers so you shouldn't have a hard time.

 

They rubbed at full wheel lock and at 3/4 turn in reverse. I got a 2in front spacer and trimmed maybe a couple inches off front fender and don't rub no more unless I go off a steep driveway or soemething where the suspension needs to flex. In reverse I don't hear the rubbing anymore, I was surprised. I will be getting the lift so maybe that clear all my rubbing issues. No uneven wear on tires though or cutting of them.

 

Just wondering whats your wheel specs. Backspacing and what not??

 

My vote is a suspension lift. When I got my Taco I knew nothing about lifting a truck, saw that spacers were cheap, did some research though, saved a bit, and ended up going with the Boss 2.0 with AAL and I love it.

 

When I had my stock wheels they were 17x8 and 18mm offset, not sure what the backspacing was.

 

This is a good thread, I just purchased BFG AT KO2, 265/75/16 and Rough Country 2" leveling spacer. I'm looking forward to installing them for a bit of a clearance and look factor. Eventually, I will add a 3" suspension kit.

 

BTW if anyone is looking for these leveling spacers I am selling mine!

 

I installed the 2"leveling kit. Not a huge fan of it but it will do for the meantime till funds say otherwise. Here is a shot of my 16 Tacoma with 17x8.5 method race wheels.

So after my install, at about 15- miles, I noticed an odd hum at 3-40 MPH...I stumbled across the listed thread. Im not sure if its the issue, but all symptoms are pointing to the differential. Has anyone else had this issue after adding a level kit?

I installed these rough country's on mine and tried to leave a negative comment about the fact that these aren't for a 16-17 Tacoma on their website. These tacomas only need an inch to an inch and a half lift in the front to level them. Rough country wouldn't even acknowledge this fact and in my opinion nobody on here should buy from them just based off of their lack of attention to detail. The only reason they have such a high rating on their website is they only approve 5 star ratings. Will never buy from them agaIn.

As to if you should buy spacers it really comes down to preference. If you aren't going to do major off roading they are fine.

 

Thank you. I do some off-roading, but maybe a few miles once or twice a year. I'll see what happens, If noises and any vibes show up I'll probably just remove it do the lift correctly with OME or 5100s all around.

 

Im running 265s and i think it leveled out pretty well. Id like to raise the rear an inch though. I do t recommend the 2"kit honestly. It is a temp till kind coilovers come i the mail. I couldnt pass them up at 50$

 

Just got the Rough Country 2in level put on my 2015 Tacoma. It looks great, great price, but a pain in the ass to install. Not as easy as they make it seem. Took 10 hours to finish everything. Just take it to someone for install, don't do what I did and waste a lot of time and energy.
