Buy new? Or keep my '98?

TRD OffRoad V6 AT, 240k, some undercarriage surface rust, 3 accidents that req'd body panel replacement and cheap-collision paint jobs (none my fault cost me little) Needs a paint job, new wheels and brakes, seats, 2nd set of Bilsteins will be due soon_ unknown lifespan of the Stealership/DIY-Maintained V6 Engine... My daily driver, runs great, just in the market for either a new Taco or T4R.

That is a tough one, and 240k is high but my friend sold his 97 that had 400k and the original clutch for $2,400 two years ago.
If I could do it over, I would consider the 4x4 SR with 4cyl, 5 speed MT- I think that is the closest available "Hilux", i.e. most bullet proof.
    Good luck whatever you do.

I have the Lane Departure/Collision Avoidance in my Canyon. It was an 'option'. We added it under the assumption, it might help with resale. LOL. A camera mounted on windshield behind the rear view mirror. You can set the sensitivity (distance)..... The warning is a light bar that illuminates on the windshield itself (similar to Corvette HUD system) and of course...loud sirens/etc. Both systems (collision & lane) only work when you're going over 35mph (or something like that).

I get more 'fantom' warnings than anything else. The system does 'something' to the brakes (stiffens them & pulses) but I'm not sure if it actually applies the brakes for you. I've always pressed the brakes myself (and never had a situation where I couldn't apply the brakes). Fantom warnings example - if you're driving around a tight corner and there's a car parked on the side of the road, it'll go off. Or approaching a railroad track (on steep hill) - it'll go off.

Lane Departure is kinda annoying on back country roads where the lanes are smaller and there's no shoulder. Luckily, you can turn that OFF. You can't 'turn off' the collision system.

But yea.....I would not want the car to apply the brakes for me - and your example was a perfect reason. I guess I don't understand the 'how' and the 'why' of it all. I completely understand and agree with (however annoying sometimes) with the warnings..... Applying the brakes without you knowing? I don't trust technology that much! LOL

I wonder if tacomas recently made are still having low tranny fluid?
Anyone with a recent built Tacoma have this problem?

Or does anyone know if new trucks need the TSB rev1?

2018 Toyota 4Runner SPIED NEWS: Confirmed That It Will Still Remain Body-On-Frame; Official Release Late 2017!

The question remains if it is all worth it to wait for the 2018 model than to have the recently launched 2017. Many Toyota fans and loyalists are conflicted with the choice of either waiting or going for what's currently available. The answer is simple. It is all worth the wait. As mentioned, the 2018 Toyota 4Runner is going to come with the same construction but with significant updates enough to set it apart from the previous generations and even to its competitors.

4 Runner is a much better value for the money.Tacoma Fanboys have inflated the price and lowered the build quality of the Tacoma.

4 runner 4WD TRD Off Road Premium $38,413

Tacoma 4WD TRD Off Road Double Cab Short Bed V6 AT $37,393

Prius, Prius V , Prius C, Mirai (fuel cell vehicle), Land Cruiser, 4 Runner, Corolla iM (Scion iM), Toyota 86 (Scion FR-S), are still made in Japan

Only the Corolla iM (AKA Scion iM) is made in Japan, not the regular Corolla. The Corolla iM is a small hatchback.

When I put my deposit down on the 4Runner today the sales guy asked my why I didn't choose a Tacoma in the same price range. Cause fully boxed frame based on a proven platform of the Prado 150, KDSS, 4.0L, and stuff.

    I'm excited about Wednesday!!!

Frontier and Ranger expected to offer diesel option. I don't know about 2018, but I'm guessing Tacoma will do the same before this gen is over. There will be new paint and wheel options for 2018, I'm almost certain. Either way, I've had my '17 for a month so it's not going to affect me any time in the near future.
