Yeah it can get pretty bad, during winter from Wasilla/Palmer to Anchorage you already need to leave an hour or so before you need to be anywhere, and on days where there's fresh snow then go ahead and leave 2 hours before like you said. I've had professors be late and totally miss classes sometimes because they were just sitting in traffic. Not fun, a lot of people do it though

The main reasons I'm considering it are:
    1. If I stay with the company I am working at hours are somewhat flexible, so I can start early and leave early.
    2. Shop Space (I want 4+ car shop space)
    3. Cheaper houses/land
    4. Maybe less crime. All over Anchorage is ridiculous. Including south side, my dad lives in South Anchorage and it is just as bad over there.
    5. Closer proximity to most of the trails :D

We just put an offer in on a house today in Wasilla, so we should know something for sure by tomorrow morning. I can't wait to get in a house so my household good and guns can be delivered. Also can't wait to get my Driver's License and Alaska plates. I already love this state and only been here two weeks. I grew up in Texas, so the friendly people are something I missed in other states. Now, the fact that the darn sun keeps hanging out in the sky has my mind fooled. We were driving back from Bass Pro at 9pm and it felt early out. Guess this will take some getting used to. The nice part will be all the time available to fish during the summer!

You'll miss the sun in the winter! I try and take as much advantage of the summer daylight as possible after the long dark winters!

Nevermind I thought you meant switching platforms. From AR or FN to AK-47 :(

I really need to talk or group up with people that know what, where, when and how. I'm brand new to AK hunting and fishing and clueless as to where to start.

I know this thread is as old as heck, but I wanted to update it anyway. Been loving Alaska, fished until the freezer was full, then thought about getting another freezer. Made it through winter, which was super new to me being from TX. Back yard is a swamp right now and smells like a barnyard, guess I need to be more pro-active with poop pick up from the dogs. Tacoma has treated me well and helped me survive the Bridgepocalypse LOL. Just ordered up some aftermarket wheels and finally gonna do that lift. Gonna go with 5100's all around and OME coils in the front and an AAL in the rear. Also been working on the stereo a bit, but that's what keeps me sane during the commute.

So, the lift plans changed, OME all the way around. Got the entire package from GTF yesterday!

I'm hoping so, I did alot of reading and was looking for the best ride (wife doesn't like the ride now) and OME seemed to be the ticket.

You might not like then at first, they start out pretty stiff, but after you break them in they should be better.

I'll make sure and tell the wife! Any recommendations for a good place for an alignment after I get the lift installed?

Alaska Spring is what GTF uses, Alignment Center of Alaska can also do it.
