I use lighter fluid too...cause it's easy. But pretty much any day I can light a fire without any matches or lighters.

i have never tried to light an "all natural" fire. i dont always use a starter (i do when its available cause i'm lazy an impatient) but i always use a lighter or matches. i've never tried to use sticks or a flint or anything.

Flint is just slightly harder than a match. Just gotta find the right stuff to launch the sparks into.

Wood only fires take a lot of work...but I've lit 2 and seen several others done....

whenever we go backpacking or camping we use our special blend fire starter. collect all the lint from the lint trap on your dryer, then mix it with vasaline until it is the consistency of something that would stick if you threw it at the wall. once a flame hits it (or spark) it lights up like napalm and burns for a very long time. my dad and bro just keep baggies full of it in their packs. it can even get wet since it is coated in vasaline.

 

I am sure that fire is not the only thing that you use vaseline for while in the woods.
