I think hor the spawning season as well a just to decrease the fishing pressure on the trout population. It is catch and release only for trout in streams here anyway.
Just for sake of it - a winter bull trout from Squamish river. Got this guy on a chum egg immitation, drifting it under an indicator, pretty much like nymphing.

Probably not obvious from the photo - the net is 50 cm long (20 inch give or take?)

That's cool, streams here are fished heavily when they stock the rest of the year isn't bad. We have conservation areas that are catch and release and artificial only.

    Nice fish!

Went to the fly fishing film tour and they had a video from Kamchatka. It was sexy.

I don't know about nj trout but around here off color blown out rivers = best opportunity at big reclusive fish that usually only feed at night. Rain is like dinner bell lol. Sure yer not gonna be fishing dries but that's ok if the bigns have their feedbag on :)

I've had some of my best days on the rivers in the rain. Murky water is a plus too. most rivers and streams are 4x the normal cfs and over the bank it's hard getting access to the spots you can fish. It usually takes a few days for the water to drop a bit, but it stays murky that's when the fishing
gets good. I'll be away on business so I'll be getting txt's from friends that out on the river hahahaha

That would be great. I haven't decided which Fontana tributary to fish yet. I've never fished any of them or Deep Creek. I am doing a trip down the Nantahala anyway so I plan on making an evening of fishing it after rafting.

Lots of trout where the Tuckaseegee river pours into Fontana. It's 5 minutes below Bryson City. But think Deep Creek!!!!

Deep Creek is only about 5 miles from the cabin so I will be fishing it for two days. I wanted to spend one day on one of the hike in Fontana creeks, but maybe I'll try the Tuck. Just seems like awfully big water.

Thanks for posting the link. I've been looking for a net for a few years I could never find one I liked enough to spend the money on. I just ordered a 27R with a clear bag. Can't wait to get it! I'm heading up to Roscoe NY in a few weeks to test it out:headbang:

I'm new to the site in the past month and I found this section of the forum today, and I could talk about fly fishing all day!

It has been a tough spring around these areas with the colder weather/water and a lot of rain. The fry were late this year and we didn't see trout numbers like previous years. This was one of the nice little fish I was able to entice last month.

The rivers are now high in freshet so I'm now focused on stillwater for the next few months. I've had a couple trips in the past month and it's been slow so far but I'm leaving Thursday for 4 days of fishing in the Cariboo and then have another 3 day trip planned for the end of the month near Kamloops.

Looking into a 12-14ft jon boat to convert into a like an "salt water skiff" for fly fishing rivers. Any suggestions on: Brands, hull type, outboard ect? Thanks been doing a ton of research just seeing if anyone else has completed this idea. I thought about converting an square stern canoe into one however am worried about the stability. Any guidance or opinions would help thanks guys.
