    Ola taco people,

Noob here! bought my 14 taco TRD sport 4wd about 3 months ago, its got 36k on it. Not a big car know how guy, but i'm learning as I go. I recently installed a rough country 3in lift on it and i'm in the process of looking for new wheels and tires. I came across a set i think looks great. They are Mastercraft Courser tires with XD series HOSS wheels 285/75/17. I havent bought the set because i'm unsure if i'm going to need spacers. Also, any recommendations on where to buy them. I have a site in mind that sends it all assembled and balanced. Seems like a good deal to me, but i have never bought stuff like this before.
Sorry for the long thread, thanks for any help.

Sounds like you jumped in with both feet. Good for you! Plenty of advice here on tires, and anything else just give it a search.
I run 285's and you might find you will need a little trimming of the plastic to keep from rubbing. Nothing serious. Make sure you get stock backspacing on the wheels and you shouldn't have any trouble.

Find your local thread It helps to have other Tacoma owners near by when you are in that tough spot. If there isn't one, start it!

Welcome. I disagree with what Dragons Taco is saying. A 285 tire is wider, and therefore needs less backspacing to push the tire out away from the upper control arm. This means that it'll push it more towards the firewall and you'll rub on stuff. Aim for a tire with 4.5" backspacing.

At the most, you'll have to trim some plastic out of the way and likely need to do a cab mount chop.

Thanks all!!! I dont know what backspacing is BUT i will do research to find out. The thing that concerns me is that the seller website "guarantees it will fit" . thats the wheel, not sure what -12 offset means

Interesting. Well I've got Cooper SST Pro's, 285/75/17's on Unique Series 237 Soft 8P, 5" backspacing. No body mount cut, but plenty of plastic trimming in the front , a little to the back of my fender. Not that I'm arguing, less backspacing is certainly a plus.

I believe stock backspacing is 5.5", so it'd make sense that 5" would be just enough to clear the UCAs but not quite enough to rub everything and it's mother.
