    Hi TW,

I've been hearing whining noises when I turn my steering wheel in a parking lot at slow speeds. I checked my power steering fluid and it was low. I don't believe there were leaks.. maybe it came from the dealership with low fluid?

I looked in the manual and it said use automatic transmission fluid drexron 2 or 3..

I may just take it in for service.. Anyone else have this issue?

    Thanks

I haven't seen it here, definitely take it in and get it documented, don't fill it yourself (unless it is bone dry). Let Toyota see that you had an issue, especially so it is on record if anything related to the power steering fails later. Also call corporate and let them know you want it documented, don't just have the dealer document it.

There may have been one thread on a power steering leak, but I can't remember if it ended up being an oil leak or not.

Is it being documented at the dealer not enough? Should I document it via corporate?

If it's documented by the dealership (on your paperwork) then corporate can see it as well as all the SA notes, and tech notes.

Not sure if my truck was just a lemon. But wanted to post on here for everyone to refer to.

I forget what he said this specific part is. But if you look at the rubber boot. It was leaking. 11,000 miles. That's why my power steering fluid was low.. I've never done anything strenuous in the truck. I have no idea what could've caused it except for the lack or QDR.
If your steering is making wire noises check your fluid and if your fluid is abnormally low take it in! Don't fill it up so there are records..IMG950067.jpg IMG950069.jpg

I drove at least a thousand miles like this. I do remember hearing sounds early on but I ignored it thinking it was normal..

Also a question for your mechanics.. Do you think this can cause problems later on even with this part replaced?

I'm considering talking to my service manager to see if he can provide me with an extended warranty. Any of you guys receive an extended warranty for addressing issues like this?

Looks like the Steering Rack was leaking, did they replace the entire Rack or just a Seal?

Need to replace the whole Rack. The Pinion Seal, Inner Rack Seal or Bulkhead Seal could all be leaking, but may only show up leaking out of one Bellows side.

Oh no Kev, not yours now too. Did they give you a loaner Yaris? Was your rear diff on the recall list too?

Why would you think you should be given an extended warranty over this?

I guess I have to check mine also when I get home, I am ready to turn 14k on it and so far so good, but who knows? since this thing runs great, I don't check much but my 15k service is coming up soon. Only got the lifetime warranty when I bought the truck, so no other issues.

If I recall correctly this was not the only issue he had, like many others on this forum the truck has been very problematic.

I have had other issues with the truck. I've made 10+ trips to the dealership and I only have 10k.. I just want to be compensated for my time and if any of my previous problems hurt the longevity of the truck I'd like to have it covered under warranty..

I was given a limited Prius... Lol. The seats are actually awesome in the Prius. I wish I can steal them and put them in my truck

I've had some yet to be explained random power steering issues at times, but have confirmed nothing fluid related. Sorry you're having to deal with that!
