Of all the vehicles l have owned in my life this truck shifts buttery smooth, that said it sucks going into reverse, hoping a fluid change will help with that.

Do you mean the 'clutch start cancel' button?

Good to know some of them are smooth. Mine was the stiffest, clunkiest manual I've ever owned, to include an '89 F-150. It was too much work to drive for my taste. Maybe I'll have to try a different one someday if I'm in the market for a Taco again.

I think he meant the Engine Start Button that Automatics have.

I've had my 2002 Tacoma 4x4 for 14 years and it's a 5 speed. Just got my 2017 Tacoma 4x4 and had to order the 6 speed manual. I just couldn't bring myself to get an auto. Driving in traffic has never bothered me.

Seems to be a lost skill!

I'll be changing mine soon, I get some pretty notchy shifts. To the point where I can actually hear it "click" into place.

That was what l thought you asked. My answer still applies though as you need the key style ignition to use the Clutch Cancel Switch. The Push Button Ignition would not allow the Clutch Cancel to work.

All Toyota needed to do was program the button for Push and Hold to start when clutch start cancel is on.

Toyota has made manual transmissions with start/stop push buttons for years, just has not imported them to the NA market. Currently driving a third world version LandCruiser VX 4.2L diesel with 5MT and start/stop that's about four years old. No clutch-start cancel button though. Clutch pedal must be pressed to the floor to start it.

The Clutch Cancel Switch would be the difference.

I'm new to this forum and to the Tacoma and Toyota for that matter. This post prompted me to ask something. When downshifting I feel like the throttle doesn't respond to my foot like it should and has a mind of its own. When I blip the throttle to rev match, the RPM's tend to remain up as if there is a huge flywheel. I know this is the drive by wire bulshit which is causing this. Does anybody else notice this? Why can't the throttle have a crisper response? I know this is a truck and not a sports car and it's been years since I drove a truck but the old throttle cable engines did not respond like this. How can I improve this?

Here is a photo of my brand new truck. Less than half a tank burned so far.

I'm sure almost everyone has noticed this. I've heard it's because of emissions, the engine cuts the fuel slowly to reduce NOx or some bullshit. I've found that if you press the clutch right as you let off the throttle the revs tend to drop a little quicker, or wait 1-2 seconds after removing throttle to press clutch pedal.

Yeah it just feels odd. I'm sure I'll get used to it. Also agree with the OP who said it is near impossible to heel/toe the way the pedals are positioned. I better make sure nobody is behind me if I try to flip it around and use the heel on the brake. ! Other than that I love the truck so far. I hope it will be a reliable long runner. Thought that I was going to drive my VW TDI into the ground when I bought it and that justified what I considered an enormous price. Never imagined they would be buying it back from me 4 years later. I've read some things already about this generation of Tacoma that worries me. Fingers crossed.

I'm glad not to have push start. Would much rather have to have the key with the chip in it to start the truck. Seems way safer and saner than the fob.
