That would be crazy expensive so I would guess no. I felt comfortable going with LRA since they've been doing this a long time down there.

So it removes the charcoal canister?

I'll have to look over on the install skygear did on Expo. I thought it included all the stock inputs and outputs to keep the emissions system in check.

Also tagging @paranoid56. I think he told me he can work with UHMWPE, maybe he can also work on some skids?

It does keep all of the emissions stuff in tact. I was just referring to the fact that Toyota spent much time and effort engineering the fuel/evap system to work perfectly over decades of use with extremely low risk of failure/fire. And they engineered it specifically for this chassis. So, replacing anything from that system with something not specifically designed to be there is likely to have drawbacks in either safety or function...or both to some degree. I can't comment on the safety because I haven't crashed but filling is compromised a little bit and I haven't bothered to dig into it more than I already have. It works well enough. When the camper project is done, I may fuss around with it a little more but I kind of doubt it.

Yeah, it's not difficult to work with. The problem with fitting a skid for the LRA tank is that the tank takes up ALL the room. I don't know what you'd really hook a skid plate to.

And, just FYI: I love the range and onboard gas that I don't have to mess with (clean) very much. Had I known EVERYTHING before buying the new tank, I wouldn't have. I'd just use the occasional Jerry can and deal with the mess it brings with it. If it was a direct plug and play and would fill cleanly every time...I'd get it again in a heartbeat! Just for full transparency. It all comes down to your comfort level with things being slightly old school. My dad's old F350 spit gas every time and it was just something you learned to deal with. I guess I'm getting spoiled by new cars...and soft as a result. Haha.

Oh I would love one of these to help on the longer trail camping trips but the price puts well back on the build list :ballchain:

Yeah, it's a hefty bill for sure.

On a side note: I think I'm a little jaded about the tank just because I haven't been able to use it for the purpose for which I bought it. I've been so busy building stuff for the truck, I haven't had the pleasure of taking a big trip to the middle of nowhere with the tank. So, right now it's just a bit of a pain when I fill it up with none of the benefit. I gotta get out more! Once the camper is done, no more big truck projects...just using.

I'd be happy if the SOB was 30 gallons so it could small enough that a skid could attach...

C'mon fab shops... if you build it, they will come.

Issues? Can't get the tank to fill up without spitting fuel. And it was a major pain to install because only one mounting point lined up. I had to make the rest of the brackets myself.

    for later.
There's already a domestic company that made a 35gal replacement tank.
Also, look at @colinb17 setup - 15 gal marine tank in the bed with electric fuel transfer. He's got like a 500 mile range pushing 35's.

There were some early issues with the one made in Bend, OR. Not sure if they got that sorted but maybe they just bailed because it's more hassle than it's worth? I think they went too big and used the factory strap hangers...too much tank movement. The AUS unit is legit...for a DCSB. My understanding is it bolts right in for those trucks. It's us AC guys that have issues. Not sure about DCLB trucks either.

I saw his setup and my backup is something like that in the spare tire area. I'd like to just fill from one spout though. I am hoping that if it's just brackets I can just get a run of them made for all AC's.
