I was not aware the new Tacoma has a Hold Stop that makes a noise. None of my previous Trucks or FJ had that. The sales guy did not tell me about that feature and it does sound strange if one is not aware of it.

Toyota in general has shifted towards quantity, not quality. They have lost sight of what gave them their reputation, and it is just a matter of time before most of their models end up in this same situation.

So, if the Tacoma is the worst compact/small truck, then what in the fuck is the best? Frontier? Ridgeline? :bananadead:

The 3rd gen Tacoma has some issues. As did the previous two generations. But let's be realistic here, the competition isn't any better for this segment.

Reliability of a redesign that's not even 2 years old yet? Ok.

Exactly, they were having a lot of issues reported this early on. When the 2016 1st came out they gave it a Top Buy based on previous legendary reliability

Yep the CPS failures, leaking and/or under-filled transmissions, car complaints.com and NHTSA complaints were blowing up...this killed the Third Gen reliability. Oh and let's not forget the Hood issues and rear diff replacement.

Now the rear diff recalls aren't helping I am sure.

According to Consumer Reports, the Ridgeline.

I'm absolutely amazed the ancient Frontier continues to sell so well. It even broke some sales records in recent months.

Even though the Frontier is so old now the drivetrain is pretty solid and you can still get a Manual Trans and they have a decent selling price too.

Most of the vehicles that they rank only have cycles of 4-5 years. So they almost never REALLY know how it will do long term, they just take their best educated guess based on past use of same or similar components etc. When you have something with a 10 year cycle like the Tacoma, by the end of the cycle you can tell with as much certainty as is possible how reliable it will be.

I truly hate to hear this. I'm a Toyota/Honda fan and like the reliability and resale value of both. Consumer Reports pooped all over the all-new 2012 Civic at the time and removed it from their "recommended" list for the first time in years prompting Honda to do a premature minor model change the very next year. It still wasn't enough, so Honda accelerated the release of an all-new Civic for 2016, which pleased Consumer Reports. The president of Honda later admitted that they cheapened the model thinking that buyers would give up quality, handling, and styling in order to maintain a low price on an efficient vehicle. They admitted they were wrong.

I don't think most people keep their vehicles more than 5 or 6 years. At least it sure doesn't seem that way...
