    Hi guys,

For reference it’s a 2017 taco sport with trailer package

I took the advice of this forum and called Toyota directly with my concern about the tranni fluid being low and that 100s of taco owners were complaining about the same thing. I got a case # from Toyota and then a GM from my dealership called me the next day.

He told me they have a machine that will drain all the tranni fluid out, measure how much it is and then put it back into the tranni.

IS this the correct way to do it?

    Any advice?

Does it have to be checked at a certain temp. with the machine they are using?

How do they get all the fluid out of the tranni cooler ? will the machine they have do it and give me an accurate reading?

Thank you – this site has been a great help

Also having them fix the passenger speaker noise – buzzing

Rear diff recall on my truck

Grease Zerk fittings (although I couldn’t find any)

    Torque ubolts on leaf springs

ANY ADVICE WOULD BE APPRECIATED! THANK YOU

no need for a temp check if they're draining it to check it. The temp check is
important while the fluid resides in the tranny for expansion reasons.

They checked mine with with the TS computer...... which means they
    didn't check it properly.

I don't think that's what the service manual calls for and I'm unsure of how they would get an accurate reading doing it that way. Is there another dealer around you?

They are vacuuming it out, it will be a pretty accurate measurement. They won't be able to get all of it out but probably most. Either was they can make a determination that it's low or not

This is what needs to be done and it appears to be a pain.

There is another dealer around me but I was told that it wasn't covered because the train is a sealed unit. That's when I called Toyota directly and chose a different dealer after I got my case #

The speaker is working fine - Its the grill that covers it that is rubbing against another plastic part that is making a lot of noise. If you do a search on ths site you will find the thread.

H Ibaniz, just watched the video you supplied- checking the tranni fluid looks VERY complicated, time consuming and must be at correct temp. to check. How the heck do I make sure the tech does it correctly?

What someone should do is take a oil level reading while cold on a tranny that is known to have the right fluid amount in it. Then we wouldnt have to go through tech stream etc. For example! Tranny cold it should be blank measurement below the fill plug.

that answer is bullshit. these trannies have a simple system,
which is a tube which if overfilled, lets is drain. if underfilled
nothing comes out the check hole

it is called an overflow hole....

but what is not simple is setting up the vehicle dead-level and correct tranny soak
so the fluid is expanded correctly. if you can perfectly level the truck then you can do this at home. I mean perfect level floor

it is measured like this sort-of

    level vehicle
correct runtime and operating temp and transmission 'soak time'

    unscrew overflow hole

    note if anything drips out

if not fill it till it does drip out

    flow.jpg

    procedures here
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/attachm...ansmission-fluid_-adjustment_2016-pdf.913287/

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/attachm...ansmission-fluid_-adjustment_2016-pdf.913288/

Now in these guides step 2 is where my picture comes from and step 3 says add fluid. but step 3 is only giving you close estimates to how much fluid you will need to add for those specific procedures done in step 3. if all you are doing is checking, then set up the temp and vehicle accordingly and open that overflow bung.

Draining it is bad idea and possible contamination to the tranny fluid if they are going to drain it then fill it back up with the same fluid.

this would be my concern, I would not want it to
be put back in there, if you drain it, replace it.

My advise? Don't look for problems where they don't exist. Not every taco has all the problems reported in the posts here. If your transmission is not acting up, I would leave it be. My tacoma seems to be problem free, but it is on the diff recall (I checked no leaks), when they send me the recall notice I will bring it in to get re-torqued (or whatever).

thanks guys, after reading this I think I will skip the tranni fluid check - I am not experiencing any problems with tranni but after reading other threads I wanted to get it checked out. it seems to work fine so its not worth taking a chance it will get screwed up unless I can get the dealership to do it like 127.0.0.1

thanks 127.0.0.1 I appreciate the advice - you must be a computer tech as you are using the loopback address as you handle

The day after I got my truck I noticed the rear driver's side JBL speaker distorting and they're replacing under warranty.
