Trust me, I have hit the rev limiter several times trying to get this shitty drive train to go and not be ran over. Any time I hit the rev limiter the engine cuts off until the rpm's are back in range and then it comes back on.

I think what you are doing is different. You would have the momentum of the truck going through the trans in return being applied to the engine. You can shut the engine off but that's not going to prevent/stop the momentum. The engine's friction would try and slow the vehicle down.

Yep, it's a safety feature that works by cutting the ignition and/or fuel until the RPMs come back down.

Sounds like a solid product OP, nice work!

That's my plan as well... I'm only on the interstate for about 9 minutes per commute so I was going to try this if I noticed my mileage go down a bit. I have a good number of drawn out hills, so I'm thinking that I may just leave the unit on and go from there and eat the 0.5 MPG decrease (just guessing there).

You're both wrong on this. Go get on the freeway in S mode and get up to about 75 and then manually down shift as fast as you can to 1st/2nd gear and watch what happens. Then come back and let me know how the limiter worked for you.

This is not a manual transmission. In a manual, yes it would be mechanically possible to downshift at high speed in 6th gear and put it into 2nd and have the engine rev beyond into the redline doing potential engine damage.

With the automatic, the failsafe that Toyota has put in, will make it impossible to put it in a lower gear that will make the engine spin beyond redline. Worst case is the screen will show S6 to S2 at high speeds and the computer will ignore it and put it in at the lowest safest gear possible without going into redline until its possible to shift into S2.

Have you ever down shifted your truck with no gas applied? Your RPM's are going to increase. If you downshift too aggressively then you can hit the redline and potentially blow up your engine. Duh!

I've tried to shift to first gear too early before and the computer ignored my attempt.

I'm going to challenge you on this. They would have to declutch the engine from the trans. There is no way to do this and it would be unsafe.

He didn't prove anything. I'm challenging the rev limiter theory. Computer not allowing it to go into 1st is a whole different argument. I can't prove or disprove that at this time.

@Ibanez If you are so worried about the engine/drivetrain, then don't buy the product. Others have given you responses to the issues you brought up, but you continue to push your position to no avail.

Start your own thread to hash the nonsense out if you're that convinced of your position. Continuing to post the same thing and the back-and-forth with others adds nothing to this thread for those seeking information about the product.

It's electronically controlled. No need to "declutch" anything when the computer simply refuses to send the downshift command to the transmission.

Nope, my question is a legit question that is a major concern that everyone should want answered. You can score your brownie points and take a bow but the limiter would only apply to acceleration and not deacceleration by a mechanical force being applied. You guys are obviously very young and don't know mechanics.

This is what I would like for the OP to confirm. Does the speed of the vehicle dictate what gear the computer would allow?

Why? Because I don't rollover and play stupid? All a rev limiter does is cut fuel to the engine. It won't prevent the engine from turning if the vehicle is in motion. Depending on the gear selected, the engine will rev at the ratio selected.

I can't believe how naive some of your are.
