Would only apply to acceleration an not decellaration. What???? Decellaration means engine speed is dropping. ????

Please refer to page 201 of your owners manual.

Downshifting restrictions warning buzzer (S mode)

To help ensure safety and driving performance, downshifting operation may sometimes be restricted. In some circumstances, downshifting may not be possible even when the shift lever is operated. (A buzzer will sound twice.)

So...like I said...the failsafe put in place will have the computer ignore the request to shift it into an unsafe gear. The automatic shifter is not mechanically tied to the transmission like a manual is. Its all controlled by computers.

Several people have explained that the system electronically restricts you from downshifting into too low of a gear yet you're still arguing

It would under normal condition but if you were in 6th gear and then all of a sudden it drop to 2nd gear, the engine RPM's would increase as it try to slow the vehicle down. How do you guys not know this?

I guess some people are so old school that they do not understand electronics and that it won't even send the signal to the mechanical part for there to be a problem.

I'm sure if you read the FAQ or the OP's previous posts, you'll note that the device only emulates you physically pushing +/- while in S mode. So, if you used your brain, it would logically mean that there is absolutely no way, barring a bug in Toyota's code or some external force pushing the truck forward past redline, that would allow for this. In terms of the former, it's Toyota's fault.

It's more likely you don't know how computers work and how they relate to modern automobiles.

This is a totally different explanation that I can except. This is not a rev limiter though.

Wow!!! If the truck will not let you shift into a lower gear because it knows you would exceed the rpm's for that gear that is exactly what a rev limiter is!!

I know more about computers than you will ever know. This is not what dumb and dumber said though when replying that the rev limiter would prevent it from happening.

The truck cannot "all of a sudden" drop from 6th to 2nd.

It'll go from 6th to 5th, then 4th, and either hit the rev limiter there, or hit it in 3rd, and will not downshift further while it's bouncing off the rev limiter. Your scenario will NEVER happen.

Enough of this stupidity. Welcome to the ignore list.

Thank you for the explanation. If someone would have explained it like that from the beginning then this would have been a two post question.

Rev limiter is more than a cut the fuel off to the engine. It will also prevent the transmission from shifting into a lower gear than the engine can handle. In the event that the engine's RPM's reaches the redline, it will upshift to the next gear to lower the RPM's. Wow, that was fun.

I never mentioned rev limiter. You challenged me to my statement and I answered and backed it up. I stand by my and Toyota's statements that you don't accept. LOL!

It's already been noted that the computer will NOT allow you to do what you are asking. It will NOT allow you to shift from 6th down to 2nd. As stated, it would "ignore" the "request" and leave it in the gear you were trying to shift out of. Dude... I'm a mechanical engineer and do know a thing or two about mechanics, but if the stupid computer (since we are talking automatic transmissions) will not let you do something stupid, your argument is stupid.

If part of the function of the rev limiter is preventing the transmission from going into a lower gear than the engine can handle then I stand corrected. I would have preferred, "the ECM will not allow then transmission to downshift to a low enough gear that would damage the engine."

No, I challenged the part where you said, because it was an automatic transmission then it doesn't apply like it would a manual trans. I failed to see the part where you said the rev limiter would prevent the transmission from going into a low enough gear that would damage the engine. For this I apologize and stand corrected. Most automatic transmission would do exactly like I'm describing.
