I called a shop today and got quoted over $475 to install my 5100s front and back. When I questioned the cost I was told that they needed 5 hours and that the fronts were just difficult and warranted the cost. Called another shop, local guys I've used before....they said $200 for everything including alignment. Why is 4WP so expensive and why are they telling me this about the fronts?

You can pay me $475 to install them :) That would include price of the shocks.... Its really really easy to do.

Good God. Does that include new spindles or what? jesus. Do the rear shocks yourself, theyre really easy. Maybe even have the shop swap the springs onto your 5100s and install the fronts yourself too. Youll learn something about your truck and save cash

Its only 4 bolts that hold the fronts on and two that hold the back on.

When I said I could do the rears just not the front..don't have a good spring compressor...he knocked off a whole $30 from the price. Of course that didn't include alignment.....if I could just have the fronts done by someone with a good compressor I'm set...

I had a tire shop that does struts put my springs on for a total of $50 for the two. Shop around, and stay as far away from 4Wheel Parts as possible, I've never found them to know anything, and lots of complaints from a lot of people over the years...

take the coilover assembly out yourself and have another shop swap the shocks, reinstall assembly yourself, get it aligned! do the rears yourself. there must be a million write-ups on this site. its simple to do!

Can't you get a spring compressor from your local auto parts store such as Auto Zone?
I believe you just need to put a deposit down, which is refunded when you bring the tool back.

I went this route, but the crappy spring compressors I had didn't seem up to the task, and seemed dangerous. Hence the trip to the tire shop. One hour and $50 later, I was re-installing the fronts, no problem.

I'm seeing $200 installed on average in middle TN. Not sure if that's good or not considering the amount of labor, I thought it was a little steep. But better that $475!!!!

I was trying to get a mod day in middle TN but no takers.....I used to turn wrenches alot, had a 71 mustang coupe, build the 351W that was in it, but when you don't got the right tools (GOOD spring compressor) you just don't have the tools...I guess i'm SOL.

Thanks but between my driving habits and the stellar gas mileage I get, it will cost me damn near $200 to get from hear to there....Again, thanks for the offer though......
