Best All Terrains for gas mileage??

I'm looking for suggestions for an aggressive looking all terrain, that will keep my gas mileage somewhat in line with what I get with my stock 265 65r 17 bridgestone ht tires. I realize I'll probably lose some mileage, but I want to minimize it. I plan on going plus one at the most and might just keep the same size as stock. I've been looking at BFGs (heavy) and duratacs (not as heavy, but almost a mud tire with the knobbiness). Suggestions between the two or other possibilities???

 

I think anything you pick will be alright. My truck is lifted and rides on 33's, my mileage is (after corrections) pretty much the same as stock.

 

the firestone dest. a/t is lighter than most. i noticed when looking at tires.
i don't have them, i just noticed.

 

michellin LTX will probably get the best mileage, but they're not very aggressive.

 

Thanks guys. I think I wanna have my cake and eat it too. I'm looking for something close to as aggressive as the BFG AT without the weight and the gas mileage hit. Keep suggestions coming. I noticed the duratracs aren't too bad on weight. Anyone pick up 265 70r 17s in that? If so, how'd it affect mileage? I have the DC sport 4x4

I truthfully didn't notice any decrease in gas mileage when I got my A/Ts.

did you go any bigger? What size and make of tires are you running?

 

I run E Rated 285's and my gas mileage didn't change much. Before anyone flames, I play close attention ... on a 350 mile trip this weekend, I used very, very close the to the same amount of gas that I did pre-lift. (same trip)

BFG's are kick ass imo when I switched on my other truck I didnt loose any gas mileage and they last F O R E V E R

 

Get a 'P' rated all terrain instead of an 'LT' tire and you will maintain most of your gas mileage and ride quality.

 

I got the 265/70/r17s BFGs AT KO on my truck. sure as hell felt heavier when i drive it right after them being mounted. I know only get about 265 to the tank. Thats before the gas light comes on though.

 

I have the Firestone Destination A/T's and they seem to do great on gas mileage, at least for my trucks engine. And I get great wear off of them, and the performance meets all of my standards.

 

he was right on. look fpor the p rated tire. Bfg makes the 265/70 r17 a/t in a load range c wich is pretty close to p rated. also michelin makes there at2 in a p rated size your looking for

 

08TRDsport, what size are you running? Any lift? How's the ride and gas mileage compared to when you had your stock tires??

 

fau8823. I have the bfg at's 265-75-16 and my mileage went down from when i had my rugged trails 265-70-16. I was getting 18 and 19 constantly with my rugged trails and now with my bfg at's im getting around 16 and 17. But we do have winter gas around here and i let my truck warm up about 10 minutes or so in the mornings so that effects it, and i had my rugged trails in the summer and fall with normal gas and no warm up time. I just bought a k&n air filter so i'll posted back next week on the mileage to let ya know if i improved any. Hope this helps ya

Weight is the biggest factor for mpg. I like the Dueler A/T Revo 2 standard load rating, not E.

 

When I was running destination A/T's on my Tundra I got 105K out of them and they STILL had 10K to go....NO KIDDING the guys @ Firestone couldnt believe it. (90% Hwy driving)

That is what I'm gonna saddle my Taco with next week. GREAT TIRE !!!!!!!
