I have 2002 Tacoma dbl cab 4wd with 3.4 v6, cold air intake and auto trans. Thinking about adding a Magnuson super charger. Has anyone done this and are there any issues with the transmission? I have been told that the trans is too weak for a s/c. Also, will the s/c work with stock exhaust? Any other ideas to increase hp?
    Thanks. Appreciate the help.

Charger will probably perform better in a manual transmission compared to automatic. Will work fine in auto setup.

Most engine runs fine with supercharger while I see other run lean. You should be fine without the 7th injector unless you plan to raise the boost. TRD make two pulley size to keep you safe :D

Header, intake, exhaust will be nice, but not required to operate the supercharger.

These things came with a supercharger option... so no I doubt the tranny is too weak to handle it.

Intake won't help power at all headers would do some wonders but an exhaust idk if that'd do anything but make it louder and the intake would only make a whistle sound

Just throw the super charger on you won't be disappointed !! And if you are you can sell it to me :p

Just recently added the supercharger to my 3.4 with auto in my 2003 Dcab. SC only at this point, stock pulley, etc, and it is like light-years better, IMO. I have heard all the same that folks have said in here so far, as well as others out there who say you gotta put an aux tranny cooler in ASAP or you will kill the auto trans right quick. I am planning a 5-speed swap so I am not too worried about the auto so far. I have thought that it feels a bit of a dog at times so I can understand doing an upgraded valve body (and aux cooler) if one were to be keeping the auto in there. But ya, I've just turned on the ECT button and been running it no probs so far. I'm about to relocate to southern utah area though and it gets a helluva lot hotter down there in the summers so I'll keep you posted on that as I dont think I'll be 5-speed swapping until around end of year.

I read the 7th injector is required or will run lean. Also remapping required and a few other parts. Transmission friend said Toyota stopped putting the s/c on the Tacoma due to auto transmission failure but I haven't found any info on that. I'm sure manual trans has no issues. Also, I'm told that Magnuson supplied the s/c to Toyota for the TRD package. Don't know if that's accurate or not. Any opinion on Magnuson vs TRD s/c? Thanks for all of your input.

Would like to know more about the trans swap. I would prefer a stick.

The 7th injector is debatable on the later year 3.4s... I have a good buddy that run around 90k miles on a 2004 with stock 3.4 with only TRD SC and stock pulley etc and he never had *any* ping or lean issues. The earlier years...seems like it is the pre- drive-by-wire (whatever that's called) ones..

I've not had SC *is* the Magnusson supercharger. The TRD version is discontinued, the Magusson one is still avail. They are the same other than the TRD logo.

This is the direction I chose. Start with the charger (well, and the colder spark plugs, which *are* required and you should also do the thermostat as well) and go from there. Baby steps. Unless you *really* know what you are doing.

I have a TRD 7th kit i found on the cheap used and I may eventually throw it in and see how it goes (along with the bigger/faster fuel pump from URD).

The auto trans should be fine with the s/c alone. If you add a smaller pulley like the 2.2 along with the 7th injector kit the power will be too much for the trans to handle in the long run. Slippage and other issues might occur depending on how you baby the pedal. My trans will throw a p0741 once in a full moon for the torque converter clutch circuit. It still works but the power has already affected it - getting a valve body upgrade is your safest bet if you want everything in tip top shape.
