I think OP got some bad info. @Plain Jane Taco is correct on this and was very polite to OP! Of the dozens of cars I have owned, having the A/C turned on while defrosting the front window was absolutely necessary. If there is lots of frost on the outside, get out and scrape. Extra heat isn't what defrosts the windows since they are full of the moisture, it's removing the moisture that is needed.

Is that why my Tacoma defrosts the windows so much better than my '40? So, redesigning the '07 to work how the '40 does won't be beneficial?

OP seems to think an intelligent person who is aware of the current weather conditions and their exact intentions (defog inside vs. defrost outside) just might do a slightly better job at managing the climate control settings than a hardwired solution.

No... that couldn't be...

Domestic manufacturers figured out long ago that the average American consumer was not smart enough to know how to operate an HVAC system in varying weather conditions.

I cant tell you the number of times I had to write on the customer repair order hard copy R.T.F.M. === Read the F'ing Manual.
This not only goes for climate control but to most aspects of vehicle operation... "what do you mean, I cant lower the convertable top going down the freeway?" or "its a Tercel 4WD, why cant I haul a horse trailer behind it?"

Of course if there is no problem found, no one gets paid, just a waste of everyones time.
