I talked to Tim at DMZ about this very idea for when I LT my rear. He told me that the 3.0 is a bigger shock made typically for heavier/full size trucks. When Tim installed it on his buddys ride (one of the first LT installs he did) he had to take out most of the valving to get the shock to cycle completely. I would stay with a 2.5 to minimize notching and get more capability out of the valving. If you want the cool factor of having a 3.0 in there, then go for it although it will take a bit to get it right.

I agree with this! I have 3.0s and way too much shock. I've revalve a few times and have all the bypasses open and could still do another revalve. Wanna do a few other things first to add/move a couple of pounds out back and see how it feels then.

Still planning on selling it. I had stopped advertising because we were going to use it to prerun the Baja 500 but one of my brothers happens to graduate that weekend so we aren't going to race. Maybe we'll hold out for the 1000 instead.

I have a first gen in the shop that I might be able to make a jig off of if you're interested. Won't be for a few weeks at least.

Well. Run with preload or without preload. That's what the difference will be.

    I prefer no preload.

@jeffz0rz another interested in first gen hoops until I long travel the front and cut the bed. I'd like to see pics of your current project too - sounds interesting.

Also, Tim at DMZ told me they have a first gen sua kit. I'm asking him for more details to see if it's much different than the TC stuff with e30's.

@jberry813 hey I remember you having a webpage that you could calculate spring rate with a bunch of measurements and angles right? Didn't know if it might help here?

Dude seriously! I've cooked my 2.5s quite a few times. Have fresh 3.0s in the garage right now, just too lazy to extend the upper shock mounts yet.
