Don't have a set in particular. Looking to do an HID conversion, assuming @Darkgoatracer actually trades them to me for a 40. Steel reserve ok bud?

Don't really need a reflective surface for HIDs right? What effect will painting the bezels red have on light output?

If you are going HID then yea man whatever lights you get will likely need a good projector which is pretty much non-existent from a premade aftermarket light assembly. I would research to see what is out there for your gen and see what appeals to you. Theretrofitsource has kits made to swap halogen housing to convert to a projector. We could get a kit of and then paint it up. If you go projector for your headlights, then yes the reflective backing of the halogens can be painted as they wont be useful at all for a projector. Painting in any color shouldn't affect the projector as it operates solely by a concentrated lens and the bulb itself while the halogen uses a "mirror reflection" to achieve its output if that makes sense.

Just realized that he is a 2012...will be different light assembly for you since you fit the 2005-2011 era unfortunately.

Damn I didn't realize the kits would be different. I figured it was just swapping the bulbs, didn't know it was gen specific! Well, never mind then. Might just buy cheap blacked out ebay lights and reseal them.

The nice thing is, I think your gen is a little cheaper to get lights for than mine which should help.

Oh wait did you mean from a hardware standpoint or from the light assembly itself? The hardware should be the same regardless, its the actual light housing that will obviously not work with your hood and grill.

Yeh I was just thinking hardware. I know the lights will be different.

EDIT: Maybe I should clarify, I know the light housings will be different.

So will Moriomoto H1s fit my second gen lights? Or will I need an adapter plate? Looks like second gen light housings are H4/9003.

I dont know if I have the balls to take apart my headlights....

but I know I dont have the wallet to buy a set of donor headlights for an extra $300-$400... and no one makes 3rd gen aftermarket headlights yet to my knowledge

after I get settled in the new house, I might rummage around in Karen's purse, find my balls, and take the headlights apart.

what's the worst that can happen??? also, does anyone know what size halo I would order for the 3rd gen?

I think so and then you can get the coordinating bulbs for it. Just to be sure though, I highly recommend calling up theretrofitsource guys as they are very familiar with tacomas and can tell you exactly what set ups will work and any additional info. They even have an IM system on their site if you don't want to chat on the phone.

Nothing wrong in getting your feet wet. At a minimum, might be handy to know how to remove the headlight from the truck.

I have been reviewing their website pretty thoroughly but up to this point I have found it all a little confusing. I will give them a shout.

I agree man, when you convert you have to start thinking about the bulb changes and stuff. Def will be easier when talking to them, especially since you have stock Tacoma headlights unlike me where I had aftermarket so the conversion required much more thought.
